where do you buy your seeds?

Getting our brand new veggie garden set up. We have never had a garden before. Any tips on what is the easiest to grow for a newbie (we live in MA) and where to buy the seeds.

I chose what to grow based on what we eat. I don't like cabbage... so why would I grow it? I do like tomatoes, so I grow lots of tomatoes. Think about what your favorite foods are and focus on trying to grow those.

I also like herbs, because they're expensive to buy and great fresh. I usually do dill, basil, and cilantro - and I need to get some chives in this year. They come back year after year.

I have a big garden, so I fill in the space with potatoes. Honestly, probably not worth it from a crop value perspective, but they grow well here with minimal attention. What does well varies a bit by what kind of summer you get; last year my squash and cucumbers never produced anything because it was too wet and cool. This year could be totally different, so I'll try again.

I order from Prairie Garden Seeds, or just grab whatever looks good at the garden center.

Our local home improvement stores had organic/non GMO seeds. I grabbed what I could hardly find in stores here. And a ton of tomatoes because I can spaghetti sauce and salsa like it's going out of style.

I agree with the suggestion to grow what you'll eat.

This is the first year I'm growing almost everything from seed.  I got all my seeds from:

They're all non-GMO and most are organic.  I've been really happy so far with them.  I had a handful of flower seeds that didn't germinate but I think that's my fault for not keeping them warm.

This is what we do too.  We buy from www.highmowingseeds.com or http://www.southernexposure.com/, which is like seedsavers.org but specifically for southern gardeners.  They specialize in seeds that grow well in our climate.

Seed Savers is great like other mentioned. I would check out a library book on growing in your local area. The book will reccomend things that are easy to grow in your region. Tomatoes, peppers, peas, beans, lettuce, chard, and carrots are generally easy to grow in most climates and do not require a lot of maintinance.
