I'm in the process of prepping my new garden space right now and am hoping to actually start planting in 2 weeks. My question is, are there any herbs that I have to worry about "taking over" that I should just put in pots? I have a very limited space to actually plant in the ground (12x5 area) and don't want to risk my herbs taking over my veggies. For what it's worth, as far as herbs go, I really want to plant basil, chives, mint, parsley and rosemary. Thanks!

Re: Herb question
I would also plant the chives in a container. While they do grow upright, from my understanding, they spread really easily, so you could have chives everywhere if you don't.
However, I am also an herb newbie. This is only my 2nd year planting herbs, and last year I did them all in pots, so someone correct me if I am wrong.
But now my grass smells really good when it is mowed.
I agree with you. If you don't care about it taking over. I used to have some that set up in a corner of my yard. I just mowed it down and it did smell wonderful and just regrew. I have some mint in my rocks because I don't care what it does. But I do not want it in my garden beds with other things.
You might want rosemary in a pot. It's only a perennial if you bring it inside for the winter (unless it isnt very cold where you live) and digging it up and transferring it to a pot could be a pain. My chives come back every year so I guess just keep an eye on them. My plant hasnt spred out but it's only two years old. Basil you have to replant each year so it'll get larger as it grows over the summer for a few months.
I dont plant parsley. I have dill and cilantro plants. I collected my seeds from my plants last year and replanted and they are doing awesome. I love them! Annuals but it's easy to collect the seeds in a ziplock baggie and replant them come nicer march weather.
