Which Dyson?

My grandparents love their Dyson vacuum and want to buy us one.  There are so many models and I'm not sure which one to get.

We have a medium size long haired dog who sheds a lot!  We also have a short haired cat who also sheds a good bit.

Which Dyson would you recommend I get?

Re: Which Dyson?

  • We have a black lab mix who sheds like crazy. My parents got us the Dyson Animal Ball (I think DC 25) for Christmas, and we love it. It's definitely able to handle the volume of dog fur and pet dander from her. We vacuum probably 3 times a week.
  • We have the DC17 All Floors and three dogs, two of which are shedders. My husband is really itching to upgrade the Dyson because every time we vacuum, multiple times a week, we have to cut the chow fur out of the brushes. My carpet shampooer also picks up a ton of hair that the vacuum just can't pick up. I need stronger, better placed bristles in my next model. Otherwise though, I do love my Dyson and how I can break down the parts to clean it so my vacuum doesn't smell like burning dog fur.

We had 2 cats and 1 dog who shed like crazy. Bought the DC25 ball regular, not animal, and it works great! Could not believe everything this vacuum sucks up. Highly recommend.
  • We have (and LOVE) a Dyson Animal DC28.  With a chow mix dog and two cats that shed all over, it's the best vacuum I've ever used.  Each time I use it, I'm amazed at what all it gets out of the carpet.

What's your flooring situation? Mostly carpets? Or mostly bare floors?  That information may help us recommend the best one for you.  Me? I have mostly carpet, so that's why the DC28 is the best fit for me.

    GL!

  • We have mostly carpet.  We have linoleum in the kitchen, laundry room, and bathrooms but I swiffer and Shark steam those.
  • I have 4 cats (2 long haired & 2 short haired), a dog & 2 birds and vacuum everyday. I have the DC25 Animal Ball & LOVE IT!

  • I have the DC25 animal ball.  Also a note - I changed our cat's food and they started shedding a LOT less.  I didn't realize that the cheap cat food made them shed.  Totally worth the extra $ Iams costs.  (Science diet works too.)

  • I have a DC24 (the smaller upright) that I got pre-cats.  I've been drooling over the animal models for a while now.  I have heard, however, that the DC28 will be better at lifting the carpet pile since it has an adjustable height setting.  My DC24 sucks up a lot for sure, but it definitely does not lift the pile as much as I'd like, which leaves my carpet looking more worn in high traffic areas.

  • We have the DC28 animal and that thing is awesome!  I am having a hard time remembering why we chose that one over the 25, but I think it had something to do with the DC28 being better at lifting up the carpet pile.  Our house is mostly carpet, so this was important.  Our carpet almost feels brand new when we vacuum now.  Oh, we also have 1 dog & 2 cats, so pet hair pick up was extremely important.
  • Thanks ladies.  Looks like both the DC25 and DC28 Animal models would be good.  I think we'll probably go with the cheaper on then.
