pedi eye doctor

Hey everyone. LO has a sis on her eyelid and though her doc is not worried about it, we want to see an eye doctor to make sure. Any recommendations. I am waiting for the office to call us back with the ones they work with but I wanted to check here too. We will in Woonsocket in terms of location. TIA

Re: pedi eye doctor

  • J has been seeing an pedi ophthalmologist since she was in the NICU. She was born with a congenital dacryocystocele in her right eye which had to be probed at 5w, and then one formed in her left eye and was probed at 13w.

She saw Dr. Tien in the NICU & he probed both her eyes, but she currently sees Dr. Mangano and will be back in the office on Wednesday to evaluate her amblyopia.

You will probably need a referral, and even then, the wait to get in can be long. J saw Dr. Tien in the NICU and he said he wanted to see her by the time she was 2w old, 3 at the latest, and I made the appointment the day after she got out of the NICU and we to wait 4w for an appointment.  We get in quickly now b/c we're established patients, but when we were there in January, the earliest they were booking new patients, was June.

  • Another Dr. Tien mom here...Lillian had a clogged tear duct since birth and it needed to be surgically opened and our pedi sent us to Dr. Tien.  His manner was a little abrupt--not mean, just matter of fact.  I don't have any complaints about the care he provided--just not a big "hand holder" if that makes any sense--at least that was my experience with him, can't speak for others.  Bottom line-- if I needed to, I'd go back to him.
  • we see dr donahueat ri eye institute. i like him. would love to go to boston at some point though. hated dr mangano  (sorry if i spelled that worng)

  • We go to Dr. Mangano but will see Dr. Tien next appt b/c she's leaving.  I didn't mind her, but I can certainly see how people found her annoying!
