Spray Tans

Have you ever tried it? Would you recommend it?

I'm extremely pale, and have a wedding to go to this weekend. I'm wearing a knee-length, strapless dress, and it'd be nice not to blind people. I don't want to be orange or even very dark, just not bright white. I feel like I've heard before that if you're very pale and get a spray tan, it can flake off and look obvious. We have a rehearsal dinner Friday night, then the wedding is Saturday. If I go for the spray tan, how soon should I go?

Re: Spray Tans

  • I've had it done before. It's not that bad. For a wedding this weekend I would go Wednesday.

  • I hope you get some recs because I need this done too!  I do not tan well at all.

  • I've done it once. About a year ago. I didn't really care for it. I guess because they didn't really give ms a lot of instructions and I ended up with the hair net pulled down a little too low. I had a horrible line across the top of forehead. I went to At The Beach. I would probably do it again, but I do my research a lot more before. I'm really pale and it did take me a while to get used it. The best day you are probably going to look a lot darker. HTH!

  • Have you thought about air brushing instead of spray taning? I think it's a little more expensive, and kind of awkward since a person sees you nude (or nearly nude, if you don't mind the tan lines). But I think it turns out a lot more even and less orange-y (maybe??) I've never done either, so don't take my word for it haha, just thought I'd throw that out there! (Oh, and I think my hair lady does air brushing. Let me know if you want her name/number.)

  • I have decided to go try VersaSpa after work today. Not sure if I'm going to do the light or medium, but I'll let you know how it goes!

@kayleeb - I did consider airbrushing, but I don't think I'm comfortable enough with my body to have someone go over every inch of it with an air brush. lol I actually read some really positive reviews for Versa, so here's hoping I don't come out looking like an oompa loompa.

If this is just for one event, I would do the air brush tan. This way you won't be streaky and have to go again to correct.

If you wanting this to be more regular kind of thing, go do spray tan. I haven't tried it myself, but the Versaspa is supposed to be great! I used to spray tan with At the Beach and found you have to go a few times to get non-streaky.

Now, they have the Versaspa, which actually has several different sprays you go through at once. You have a moisturizer, bronzer, and a tanner. Then it dries you,so no streaking by towel drying. Seems pretty awesome.

A friend of mine used to manage one of the salons and she only spray tans and she is fairly pale, she looks like Snooki now. haha. But she does it every few days because she is addicted!

  • So, the pushy sales lady signed me up for a level 2 when I came prepared for a level 1. Slightly freaked out... will update in the a.m. Indifferent
  • Okay, if anyone still cares, the results are in. Just to reiterate, there are three levels of VersaSpa: 1 (light); 2 (medium); 3 (dark). The sales lady took the liberty of choosing 2 for me, and since I'm such a people pleaser, I went with it. This morning, I can definitely tell a difference. I mostly like it, it doesn't look orange or streaky, but it's a bit more than I wanted.

When you're actually in the spray booth, you have to get into four different positions pretty quickly, trying to think to make sure you're not standing in a way that would block the spray from any part of your body. This proved to be a challenge for me, apparently, because now there's a faint line at my wrists. I think I held my hands wrong or something. Who knows.

A good friend of mine said that she got the 2, and was perfectly happy with it... after 24 hours. I think I will feel the same. Overall, I'd recommend it, just maybe fight for level 1 if you're wanting a more subtle change.

  • This reminds me of the spray tan Friends episode--"I got two 2's and a 4, I'm an 8!?" Haha. Glad you had a good experience :)
