DH turns 25 next week (yes I robbed the cradle and no I don't feel bad about it). I'm wanting to throw a nice surprise party for him but am drawing complete blanks as to where to start. His birthday is Saturday the 14th and I'm thinking early evening (a lot of our friends have little kids so I want it early enough so that they can go home with the kids when it gets later if they want. Because of the nice weather and the fact that there will be kids there I'm thinking of doing a BBQ with hamburgers/hot dogs and sides, but I'm wondering if I need anything other than that and the cake. Also, can you think of any games we could play or something. Sitting around and talking is fun, but I want something that will make it fun for the kids as well (we don't have kids so I can't think of anything off the top of my head).
Re: DH's birthday
I think you can have some games laying out for people to organically go to. Not necessarily a prepared tournament - though you could go that route. The type of games depends on the size of your yard.... soccer and softball? Or cornhole and horseshoe ring toss?
For sides I would suggest hearty stuff like corn on the cob and some salads and snacky stuff like chips/dip and chips/salsa. Maybe some fruity popsicles for the kids. And lots of beer and wine for the adults.
HTH!
