Bored in Portland metro...

I have been living in Tigard for 2 1/2 weeks and looking for work.  The person who was supposed to move in bailed at the last minute so, I will continue to live alone for a while.

Until I find a job, I need something productive to do and maybe make some new friends. What are some good places to volunteer or any other ideas on what to do with my time?

Re: Bored in Portland metro...

  • I know that OHSU and Providence are always looking for volunteers.  I think the Oregon Humane Society is too.
IUI - BFP! Baby boy born still - August 2012
    IVF - BFP - miscarriage June 2013
    FET - BFN
    FET - BFN
    Switched clinics
IVF with PGD - three embryos created, all healthy - July 2014
FET - transferred two embryos (boy and girl) - Nov 2014 - BFP!
    Baby Boy born July 2015

  • What kind of job are you looking for again? And what kind of volunteering opportunities are you looking for? I'd def. check out the Humane Society if animals are your thing. Also check out meetup.com to find different groups with similar interests. Maybe a book club?

I would love to work for a non-profit but for now I'm looking for anything.  I am looking for something that could be fun and look good on a resume. I enjoy helping animals and people both locality and internationally.

The Humane Society would be perfect fit for me.  Unfortunately I went through a hard year with fostering animals and volunteering at shelter (I even adopted a dog that was in poor shape and they make it worse) so, it be best if I took a break from that.

I'm sorry you had a hard year.  I volunteer at Oregon Humane Society and LOVE it.  They are awesome there.  I can totally understand taking a break, but if you think it would be a perfect fit, I'd encourage it in the future.  They are amazing there. One of the best in the country in terms of adoption rates and they don't euthanize for space.

You could also check out handsonportland.org for 1 time volunteer opportunities with no long term commitment.
