Work - I screwed up

Ugh. I'm physically getting sick over a mistake I made. We're having a Cinco de Mayo open house at work on Thursday and invitations went out via email 2 weeks ago. I got distracted helping one of the partners and said I'd just send the email in the morning. He said to go ahead and get it out tonight, so I did.

And yup, I sent it to the wrong distribution list. We have 2 lists, one that gets design information and one that is for office events. I'm not sure exactly how different the lists are. I know the office list does leave of people out of town.

I called the partner that told me to send it immediately and asked him what to do, so I recalled the message. Of course, that still leaves a "this message was recalled" deal in their inbox. I've got a few ?? emails back, but not to many.I resent it to the right list, so at least they will just think there was something wrong with the first message.

I called the partner I directly report to for Marketing stuff and left him a message tonight. I asked if he'd give me a call back to discuss, so I sit and wait.

  • That doesn't sound too bad. Hopefully they won't give you too hard of a time over it.

  • That sounds human! It sounds like you did the best you could after realizing the error. Don't beat yourself up too much about it.
  • I hate feeling like that.  But sounds like you found and admitted the error, and did what you could after the fact.  Hope the partner recognizes that and your discussion with him goes well.

  • I agree with the other ladies. It sounds like you did everything that you could to correct the situation as soon as you realized what happened. I'm sure it will all work out fine.
  • Agree with everyone else--you made an error, but you did what you had to do to fix it. And you owned it, which a smart boss will admire. I've been there before with distribution lists, so I know how you're feeling, but your actions afterward put your professionalism on display. I think that'll be recognized. :)
