I am going to plant lettuce in my garden this year, but I am concerned that it will all get eaten/damaged by pests if I don't plan it right...so, what are the best herbs to plant near lettuce, or any other vegetables for that matter, that will keep the pests away? I am googling it right now, but I thought it might be helpful to also get some suggestions on here as well. Thanks!
ETA: I am leaning towards planting basil, chives, dill, oregano and tarragon, but I am open to any other suggestions...any pros or cons with any of these? I know I will have to make sure that I do the correct companion planting, but other than that what do you think or do you have any other herbs that you like planting in your garden??
Re: best herbs to keep pests away??
Overall, I think attracting beneficial insects to your garden will probably be more successful, although what you've planned is totally fine.
Planting flowering plants (esp. those with small white flowers) are great for attracting ladybugs (which eat aphids) and attracting birds can help you with other pests.
Good luck!
Insects. I have 2 raised bed gardens and last year I didn't really have any problems with insects, but I was worried that they would bother the lettuce. Maybe I won't have too much of a problem though. I have heard that about Marigolds too - so maybe I should add them to my garden as well. Thanks for your help!
