I have recently been asked to chair a committee at my church. It's a temporary committee with no more than about 5 members, including myself. I have the option of hosting meetings at the church, but with a small group I would like to make it mare layed back than in a conference room at the church. I would love to be able to host meetings at my house, but our apartment is so small that having more than a couple people at a time is difficult. Plus, there's no quiet room in my house to hold a meeting in because it's a 1-bedroom apartment so sound travels. One of the other members offered to host, but she has cats and I'm allergic.
So, what would you do? I guess I'm not opposed to hosting it at the church, but if I do, I would like to make it less formal.
Any suggestions are appreciated! TIA!
Re: Hosting a small meeting...
How about a coffee house or a diner?
You can keep it in the conference room and bring in some refreshments. Arrange the room so you're not all sitting at a huge board room table.
HTH.
Those are really good ideas! Thank you!
Is there a Panera or Starbucks with a private meeting room near you?

We kind of live out in the sticks. There is a family-owned coffee shop in our town, but it doesn't have a private meeting room.
I'm chair of a small non-profit and artistic director of another. I frequently host board meetings at my home and I have a small, one bedroom condo.
I have had 15 people at one board meeting, and although it was little tight, it worked out just fine.
You said there is not quiet space... do you have kids or a SO? My SO tends to go out with friends when I have a meeting. I usually bring my dinning room table chairs over to the "living room" side of the room, and arrange everything around the coffee table bench that we have.
Otherwise, the conference room seems like your only other option.
I know DH would leave if I told him I was hosting a meeting, but we also have a dog and very loud neighbors. Our walls are paper thin, and both the neighbors above and beside us tend to be loud in the evenings.
