Borax for ground ivy-it works!

I did a test area in my backyard by sprinkling some borax on the ivy before it rained. It rained for a few days, and I didn't think it affected it at all. After it quit raining, the ivy completely dried up and is dead. What little bit of grass that was there before is still there and green.

I'm thinking about diluting some borax down and spraying the rest of the ivy. I don't want to get too much of it in the soil. I'm so glad I found a "natural" way to get rid of it!!

  • Going out to buy borax. I hate ivy. It's popping up everywhere. Grrrr.

  • When I did the test area, I just sprinkled it pretty heavily in one spot. There is some grass poking thru, but also a lot of brown. We just reseeded that area, so hopefully the soil is strong enough to let it grow!

I did more research, and found that 1/4 cup borax to 1 gallon of water is diluted enough to not hurt the soil/grass. I'm going to try that on the rest of it. Then when I reseed the grass, I'm going to put compost and other organic fertilizers with it to strengthen the soil just in case.

    Good luck!

  • Does this work for myrtle?  I've googled but can't find anything decent.  Our entire front yard is overtaken by myrtle.  We want some grass, dangit!
