Anybody been to the Brimfield Antique Show?
Question from a NJ Nestie!
We are going next week. 4 days with a 17 month old (oh, and my MIL!). Tell me, am I nuts?
Seriously, I have a 17 month old who just wants to run around. Am I going to be able to find some space where I can let her play? She's a great eater, but, am I going to find enough food options amidst the fields? We are staying in a hotel all the way in West Springfield. Am I going to find decent food options for a baby who is going to be tired and cranky?
I realize this is all pretty far from Boston, but, I didn't know if there was another MA board. I'll post on the CT board, too.
Thank you!!!
Re: Anybody been to the Brimfield Antique Show?
I have been to the antique show but not with a toddler. Springfield is the closest major metropolitan area. If you are at hotel with a kitchenette, check out the Big Y grocery stores. That is a local chain with decent meals to go and a huge salad bar of vegetables and fruit. I can always bribe my 2.5 year old niece with fresh strawberries. There will be lots of food vendors at the antique show.
Every school will have a playground of some form as will many of the village greens. The local newspaper for Springfield is www.masslive.com. Sturbridge Village a historic reenactment village in Sturbridge MA is not far as is Six Flags New England in Agawam MA.
I don't envy you getting through NYC and New Haven on the drive up. If you have AAA, they have good trip planners that may list playgrounds.
Good luck.
I agree with Old Sturbridge Village! I haven't been in a few years, but it is so much fun!
I'm about 15 mins from the Brimfield grounds, you should be able to find somewhere to let LO run. It's pretty much a few big fields.
And yes, Big Y is a good idea for on the go. There is also my fave sushi place in Sturbridge (Kaizen) and a really good BBQ place that sells pulled pork sandwiches.
Awesome!! Thank you!! It's good to know there is somewhere I can go. This is my husband's and MIL's kind of thing. If I have to walk around with an unhappy toddler and look at antiques for 4 days I'll probably go crazy!
The hotel has a fridge and microwave, so, knowing where to pick up some groceries is great!
Oh, and I'm not too worried about the drive. I've worked in Bridgeport, New Haven, and Hartford, so, I have an idea what to expect getting through there! We're going up Wednesday morning and coming home Saturday afternoon, so, it won't be at the worst traffic times, thankfully!
In Springfield, there's Forest Park, which has a zoo. There's also various playgrounds, picnic areas, and a pond where you can feed the swans. It's also really nice to walk around. There's also Stanley Park in Westfield (the next town over from West Springfield), which is really pretty. And I assume it has some sort of playground, though it's been ages since I've been there.
Downtown Springfield is home to the Dr. Seuss Sculpture Garden, which I haven't been to but might be interesting. There's a science museum there, too (along with an art museum, and the CT River Valley Historical museum), but she may be a little young for it.
If you'll have multiple cars and it's rainy, there's also 3 malls in the area - Holyoke Mall is the biggest, Enfield Square is just over the border in CT, and Eastfield Mall is in Springfield. Enfield and Eastfield both have movie theaters, if you get super desperate.
