I recently made them using boxed classic white cake mix and a can of white vanilla frosting and they were delicious.  I used the pastel colored melty chips for the chocolate (the kind you get at the craft store or party store), because I shaped and decorated them like easter eggs.

This is the first and only time I've made them, but next time I'd like to try with red velvet cake and cream cheese frosting, dipped in dark chocolate.  Maybe with tiny little diced up maraschino cherries in them.

I've only made them once: with red velvet cake and cream cheese frosting which was really good (but, use gloves or a small cookie scoop to form the balls because the red stains a bit).

Basically any cake/frosting combination that you like will work!!

I was going to suggest that you skip red velvet b/c of this!

I wore disposable gloves. Coated in dark chocolate. So yummy.
