Re: Chit-Chat
Brianna, hugs! I'm sorry.
I could not have listened to that radio station - I would have been in pieces.
So, I work near downtown, and our admin just decided we need to go out to a farewell lunch tomorrow for our dept head... but she doesn't know where. She wants nice American food in downtown (and I'm adding Uptown to the list of possibilities) and wants it to be less than $20pp... any suggestions?
I would like to start couponing, but I'm clueless as to where to begin. Do you go to different websites? Sunday paper? How the heck to do you save $46 on $150 much less get $600 for $0.32?! Oh my...
"...And he just came out of my imaginary birthday cake." -its apelila
This is WR - sue me.
So my cousin announced today on FB she is going to get ordained online and be the minister for her sister and FI. I posted I thought it was cool and then my family started replying with how weird that was and how it wouldn't seem official. These are the same people who told me my ceremony was beautiful and so well-written and they really enjoyed the words of the man who married us...who was ordained online.
So, DH rented this movie a while back, and I had no idea what it was about. I didn't bother to read the back, which I ALWAYS do. So the movie is just tickin along, and I'm enjoying it, and then, well, let's just say I was not prepared for the heaviness of that movie, at all.
Cupcakes with some of that icing MIGHT make up for it.
The people who get $600 for nearly free devote 40+ hours a week to couponing and buy coupons from clipping services and some even dumpster dive for people's un-used papers. That is WAY too much for me to do, so here is what I do:
I clip coupons from the Sunday paper and also keep the Walgreens and CVS inserts. I get the Albertson's ad weekly in the mail and keep that too. I also use coupong blogs to help match up deals to maximize coupons and also get more coupons from online printables. Krazy Coupon Lady, Hip2Save, Wild for Wags, Couponing 101 and My Frugal Adventures are all good blogs for this. You can also do something called the Grocery Game, where she does all the work for you and you just print lists and go, but it has a monthly fee I don't feel like paying.
I make a list of everything we need, a lot of which (milk, eggs, etc.) I probably won't have a coupon for, but some of which I will. You need to start clipping coupons about 3-4 weeks before you really start seeing savings, it's about matching the coupons to the sales, which the blogs help you do.
The idea is to make a stockpile - a SMALL one, not a giant hoarder one - of things you know your family will use. You only buy things when they are on sale and then you save pretty good amounts of money. One thing that is hard for me is that you can't really be brand loyal and do the big saves - you have to really be able to eat whatever cereal is on sale or use whatever body wash has a coupon.
This does take some time - usually about an hour or two a week, but the $$$ saved is worth it.
ETA: For some reason my links aren't working - you can google all of those names and the first things that come up are the correct sites.
We do not have 576 tubes of toothpaste but we have not bought any toothpaste since 2008/2009. Same with TP/paper towels/shampoo-conditioner and those types of non-perishable things. We bought our first TP a few weeks ago because we had gotten SO much on sale during the time we were doing some major couponing. Saturday I saved $86 on our grocery bill.
We used the grocerylady.com or something like that. You pay like $5/month per store that you want- we did that for a year and got majorly burned out but now with seeing what they considered a good deal, I can spot it in the ad.

I think it is because someone on the Knot was complaining about how cakes were so expensive and didn't understand why they couldn't use the $1 betty crocker mixes. Then Julie said something to the person and they thought she was being all rude about it.

Sorry that's more of a B&M
This. Then yesterday Julie posted on FB about getting her hair did (and spending $30+) and she made a crack hating on Betty Crocker's looks - I responded that BC was a dime (which she was) and told her not to hate. I thought the sig was appropriate both in my defense of Betty's hottness and Julie's initial argument.

Sorry for my post and run earlier, I forgot I was in 5 hours of meetings today
. I have been so busy but so I have been more lurking lately and I miss being able to join in on the conversation.
Brianna, *hugs* I cant even imagine how hard this time of year is.
Re: Extreme couponing I am fascinated by that show, I could never do it but find it interesting to watch.
The other day this lady came on Paula Deen and made a Betty Crocker cake. I was a little shocked that we have gotten to the point with baking where showing people how to make a boxed cake is required.
Brianna is bringing a cake to the next G2G? Hooray!!
WOW Leslie, thanks for the good information about couponing. Keep up the good work, sounds like you've got it down pretty good and not overly excessive. I think the people on TV are majorly obessed and addicted to some extent. Maybe I can slowly try to do some couponing, I'd love to see some savings!
*Lacey - I was thinking that these people should donate the excessive stuff that they know they can't/won't be able to use. How cool that someone did that and really think that more should.
BL- that commercial bothers DH so much he said he refuses to ever buy Luvs.
Brianna- hugs! I couldn't imagine not having my mom. Father's day is going to be a tough one this year!
Extreme couponing- love the show. I use to be big into coupons but then it just got to be too much time. Maybe I will use those websites and get back in to it. I know once we have a baby we will need to save. Maybe once school is over for the semester (next week!!!) I can devote a little time each week to get the coupons.
I really have nothing else to add but I'm so glad it's Thursday!!!
One of my good friends that got married on April 1st did a confetti cake. It was YUMMY! I think she used to post a little bit on TK....maybe more on the April 2011 board.
I think that's who I am thinking of! It was someone from my month board :-)

CAKE IS THE ONLY THING THAT MATTERS!!!
I'm going to be up to my ears in cake the next couple of days. My mom is throwing a huge Cinco de Mayo party on Saturday and I'm making three kinds of cupcakes: Strawberry daiquiri, Pina colada, and Mexican hot chocolate.
So, my SIL (the one pregnant with twins) is in the hospital right now for monitoring for elevated blood pressure. It looks like it's been going down and they're going to release her today, but my heart started racing when we got back from the gym at 10pm last night and I had voicemail from her!
Yep, I think it was because I saw a picture of them eating the cake on the FB group.
Bio Good Times
I missed that picture. But now I just really want some cake!

Brianna - I want funfetti with rainbow chip frosting. Make it happen.
ETA: Or, you could do white cake with rainbow chip frosting cake balls. Totally.
