I'm awful at making decisions. My dad ordered me the 50mm 1.8 so I would have it for Mother's Day. But now I'm thinking about returning it and paying the extra for the 1.4. OR I could use that money (plus some) and get the Tamron 17-50. Do you still use yours a lot? Really, for what I do, I would like to have one solid prime, one solid zoom, and one solid macro.
I've got the macro covered but that is it.
Re: **hikingandclimbing** (and other photogs)
If only there was a GTG this weekend and then I'd just let you try mine and my old 1.8 to help you decide.
It really is a crap shoot as to if it will be worth it for you since it is so much more money. I absolutely love my 1.4, but I obviously had income to justify the upgrade. If money is tight, you might want to roll with the 1.8 and then think about selling it for an upgrade down the road when money is better.
I absolutely love my 17-50. It has been a rock star in my bag for the past two seasons. That being said, I have L lens envy and know that I want to upgrade to full frame when the 5Dmiii comes out (maybe this fall) and then the 17-50 would only work on my 7D (since it's not full frame capable). I'm not sure if I'll still use it/keep it when that happens.
Talking about lens envy, I am trying out the Canon 100mm 2.8L macro IS at the end of the month and I am scared about how much I will want it given the price tag.
I got it.
I really think that I would regret it if I didn't. Now I can't wait to do some shoots! I just need Seth home to watch the kiddo!!
Thanks for you help!!
Congrats!
It's a solid lens and a definite upgrade from the 1.8. I can't wait to hear how much you love it!
Yeah, I'm definitely no good at talking anyone out of new glass. The L macro that I'm testing is due to get to me on the 23rd and then I ship it back on the 2nd. I dare say my wallet is going to be hurting not too long after based on how much I'll likely wind up loving it.
The worst will be if I try out the 5DmII because I'm already excited for the mIII and know how awesome the II is would kill me to wait for the III.
*sigh*
I wish money grew on trees.
