Speaking of RSVPs, how long do you give the person to RSVP prior to the date? I'm thinking in terms of birthday parties... we're having the babies' party on June 18. I was thinking June 11th as the "RSVP by..." date, but DH thinks we should go with a week prior to that (so 2 weeks total).

The food can be ordered in less than a week and I plan on just doing little smash cakes and a big sheet cake from Costco. Opinions/advice?

If you're comfortable w/June 11th, I think that would be fine.  Hopefully you'll have a good idea before that date of how many are coming.

i would give myself about 3 days prior to really needing to know so you can call the idiots that are too cool to RSVP.

I think anywhere from 1 - 2 weeks is good.

I think two weeks prior is perfectly acceptable.

Is it mostly just close family? 

We did a week but it was close family that I could call and demand an answer from   Everyone we invited I already knew were planning to come anyway, but if you have more friends/not super close family then 1-2 weeks would work.

I would go with 1 week, unless you think you'll have a long list of trouble-makers who won't rsvp.

I think a week is fine, based on the info you gave about ordering the food/cake.

I like to do about 10 days because most people are lame and don't bother to RSVP so I like to have a few days to make individual phone calls.

I think a week to ten days is definitely sufficient. 

Also, June 18th is a great day for a birthday party.  It's my birthday that day and I plan on partying... except not "partying" in the sense that it meant in college. haha.
