We are thinking of heading up to Gettsyburg in June, and I wondered if anyone here had any tips as far as where to stay (if we go overnight), what to do, etc. We will have DD with us, so we will have to take that into account in terms of a lot of walking, stoller accessibility, etc. Would a bus tour of the battlefields be a better option? Just looking for some tips from anyone who has been recently, especially with a LO. TIA!
Re: Gettysburg?
I do a lot of day trips up there, but have stayed over a few times. We stayed at the Wyndam (for our 1st anniversary), which is a little outside of Gettysburg. Most of the hotels right in Gettysburg are fine too--it just depends on what you want and how close to the battlefield you want to be.
The Boyds Bear Factory is huge--every bear (and all other critters) you can ever imagine is there.
I would suggest buying the auto tour cd and guide. You drive yourselves around the battlefield, and the cd narrates everything to you. That way you can stop and walk around whenever you want, or leave and come back too.

DH and I went for the first time for our 2nd anniversary in March. We stayed at the Double Day Inn. It was a B&B so it probably wouldn't work with your LO. It was right by Gettysburg College and right on a part of the battefields. There are several hotels in the area. I know there is a Motel 6 there but not sure how nice of a place you want.
I second luckii's suggestion about the auto tour cd. It can be done in about 3 hours or it could be an all day thing. I liked it for that reason: we could take our time and go at our own pace. If you do the bus tour just remember you will be on someone else's schedule. We are big picture takers and stopped at each place and took pics. (We have over 200 pics from the two days we were there!)
I would also suggest going to the Museum and Visitor's Center. They have demonstrations and lots of artifacts there. We also took a walk through the Gettysburg National Cemetary. (LO might get bored with this part) The weekend was very enlightening for me since I don't remember much from the Civil War era history classes in school. HTH!
