Placenta Previa...

....has anyone here have/had it...I was told to stay off the internet by my doctor. I had some spotting Tuesday and today so I called the doctor and went in for an ultra sound. I have marginal placenta previa, she actually said it wasn't even marginal just hairline but they have to treat it the same. She said she suspects that it will move as I progress and grow. If it doesn't move I will have to have a c-section. She did say no gym until at least June when I have my next ultrasound and they can see if has moved.

Just wondering if anyone else here has experienced this.

Re: Placenta Previa...

  • I personally didn't but have had several friends who did with NO PROBLEMS. So set your mind at ease, listen to your docs, and just take it easy. It very often does move as you grow, so it may resolve itself especially if it's only hairline as your doc described. And if not, with the wonderful tools of modern medicine, you'll still have a beautiful, healthy baby (and mama) in the end ;-)

  • I had it w/ J. It moved by 28ish weeks. I was on pelvic rest for awhile, but otherwise no restrictions.

  • I had it with DD. Marginally as well. I had no restrictions mine was so marginal (well nothing 'rough' HOW EMBARASSING was that convo).  Mine moved by about 26 weeks as well. I also had spotting which freaked me the hell out but it all turned out ok. I'm sure It'll be fine.

I had it at my 19 week u/s, which I was told was pretty common. It moved on its own, and was fine by the follow-up u/s my doc scheduled for 23 weeks. No need to worry at all yet!

  • A friend of mine had it as well...she was pregnant with twins and she had to lay off exercise and just take it easy.  Stay positive- things will be ok!
  • I had it from early on in my PG, but mine lasted the whole time and I was not the normal PG...went through IVF, among many other isues while PG due to reaction to meds from IVF.  The placenta previa aspect was the least of my worries, nothing at all to have worried about really... just could not have sex at all (but was on bed rest beg of PG from having fluid in lungs, so that was not happening anyway...lol).   Mine did not go away, but mine was completely covering and i ended up having a c/s...which i was actually relived to have known my outcome of that part of the PG.  If yours doesn't end up moving and you are getting towards the end I will talk to you more about some other things, not needed now at all (promise you, not a big deal, and nothiong to worry about).  do not stress over anything if you do read things online... trust your dr for now. :-)
  • I had it early on and it moved on its own by 18-20 weeks.
  • I haven't, but I'm thinking of you and hoping for the best!

  • I did with Tristan.  I had partial previa (it was almost 50%).  I started full on bleeding during my first tri and was scared to death because I had just had the m/c a few months before.  I was put on full pelvic rest and bed rest for 2 weeks.  It ended up resolving before the 3rd trimester.

Good thing is they can monitor it, and you'll probably get more u/s out of it so you'll get to see your little one more often!!!

Rest up, be a good girl!!!

  • Didn't have it but it is super common and usually resolves itself by late in the pregnancy.  And if you do have it until the end it just means a c-section and no sex and no other strenuous activities.  Not the end of the world  :)
  • I had it with my 1st, it usually moves by 28 weeks but mine took about 31 weeks to clear.
  • I also had it very early on.  They told me at my 12 week ultrasound.  It completely resolved itself by 18 weeks.  They said the same thing that it would probably move up as the baby grew.  I was put on pelvic rest as well.  Definitely don't google.  I ended up with a csection anyway but not due to previa(my little guy didn't want to move down).  Good luck!!
