Boston nestie visitor

Hi Ladies,

I will be visiting San Antonio next weekend.  Any suggestions on what we should do?  Good places to eat?  Looked into tubing but heard that the water is still a wee bit chilly....Any suggestions would be welcome by this New Englander.

Have a great night,

Shirley

  • Hi!  San Antonio is about four-five hours south of the Dallas area.  There's a board for the San Antonio area, so I would really go post this there.  Most of us go for a visit or two and would probably tell you to go to the Riverwalk and the Alamo.

Yup, what Julie said.  Sorry, but whenever I go to San Antonio I spend it with family, but my grandpa would love the company if you dropped by!  ;)

Check out the SA board, and hopefully they are busy, otherwise, umm.... the riverwalk and Alamo.

  • Hey girl, I'm originally from San Antonio and I've checked out the SA board and it is DEAD...I would definitely say to go to the Riverwalk/downtown area if this is your first time visiting.  There is a Mexican restaurant called "Mi Tierra" that every visitor must try.  The temperatures are already in the mid 90's and it's pretty humid as well.  Try to take a boat tour on the Riverwalk if you can, or depending on what part of town you're in, you could head up to New Braunfels (about 30-40 minutes North on I35) and visit the Natural Bridge Caverns.

That's all I can think of off the top of my head, but I'll come back if I come up with anything else.

    Enjoy your trip!

  • Ditto on the Riverwalk area.  You can check out the Alamo if your interested in the history.  The Market is a short bus ride away and you can get some great handmade souveniers and such.

There is all kinds of nightlife on the riverwalk...and yes definitely take the boat ride on the river.  At night it is really cool.   If your interested in a unique bar scene there is a dueling piano bar called "Howl at the Moon" that we really enjoyed.

I also highly recommend the caves/caverns.  They are outside the city but it was a really fun experience.

  • Mi Terra is my favorite!  Ditto the Riverwalk.  The caves and caverns are pretty awesome too.  There is also Sea World and Fiesta Texas.

  • A bit cheesy, but there's a mirror maze very close to the Alamo that DH and I enjoyed.

    Ditto the other PPs :)

Are you talking about Ripley's Believe It or Not? The was museum is pretty fun too :)  I used to love going there as a kid...

Oh and the Alamo...if you decide to take the tour, don't set your expectations too high. :(

ETA: WAX museum..not "was" silly fingers...I have heard Howl at the Moon is great, too!!
