Should I be concerned?

Hi Ladies,

I have a work related question that I could use some advice on....with the economy situation maybe some of you can relate?

So I work for a company that coordinates trainings for corporate companies, and one of my responsibilities is that I update the calender of all the upcoming trainings and write them out for about 3 months.  Well, I did this yesterday, and I was sort of suprised to see that over the next 3 months our scheduled classes are dwindling...and i know that as of 2009 two of our clients are ending their trainings with us since they are finished.  As of right now, for 2009, we only have a handful of classes scheduled.

This is a small company, and even though its not my job to secure the business, I feel that it is not coming in as it should be.  Do you think I should be concerned about this?  Or am I being premature in my thinking and jumping to conclusions?

Any thoughts would be great!  Thanks!

Re: Should I be concerned?

  • I would be concerned, but not in full panic mode.  Perhaps there are some contracts in the works that you don't know about yet?

I'd say it might not be a bad idea to update your resume and send it out to a couple other companies you might be interested in to get yourself out there and see if you get a bite.

  • How is the business normally the last few months of the calendar year? I wouldn't expect a lot of training and classes during the holiday season normally occurs.  I will tell you though, that my company has cut back on it's external training seminars due to anticipated poor performance in FY09. If I were you, I would make sure my resume was updated and be more stringent with your savings than normal.

  • I agree with the other girls, and think that the best thing that anybody can do right now, whether you're in a good job or not, is to keep you resume updated and out there for companies and recruiters to see.  The job market right now is EXTREMELY slow, so anything you can do to get a jump on things (especially since you sound slightly concerned with your company's current situation), is to stay active in the hunt.  Also, just know that you're not alone in your concern  :)  Hang in there... sending positive vibes your way!
  • I would keep my eyes and ears open for any other hints that business is really slowing down... especially if it is not normal to have a bit of a slow down this time of year.  Any small company can have a short slow period but I would watch management for clues that they might be worried.  And as stated- the job market is slow right now so it doesn't hurt to keep your eyes on what is out there too!
