where to buy wife beaters

okay, i've had it.

i've purchased ribbed tanks from old navy and from the gap and they SUCK. they stretch out so fast and lose shape within hours of putting them on.

where can i get ribbed tanks that stay fitted and aren't 14 miles long?

Re: where to buy wife beaters

  • Have you thought about switching from ribbed to something else? I am religious when it comes to my tank tops, and I wear exclusively the seamless collection from The Limited. They're generally $25, but you can get buy one get one half off most of the time, and if you look at the sale racks, they often put last season's colors on sale for $9.99. I just bought 5 this weekend.

  • Target's Liz Lange Maternity collection has surprisingly decent ribbed tanks, but they are longer. I don't think they are ridiculously long for a non-pregnant person, but they don't stop at the belly button.

    Have you tried H&M?

hmmm, those are cute but i like racerback tanks best.

anita, have you purchased any from H&M? do they hold their shape?

  • I haven't purchased any from H&M, but a good number of friends buy a lot of Ts at H&M and love them... but I can't speak from personal knowledge.

  • I buy the Reebok ribbed tanks from DicksSporting Goods.  They have lots of colors to choose from.  I have some from several years ago that are still the same shape, they haven't shrunk in the wash or stretched out as I wear them.  They have faded a little over time, but not a big deal because they're not too expensive.  Online right now they are $15, but it seems like they are always on sale in the store.
  • I have a few from H&M that are okay, but they don't hold their shape nearly as well as the ones I've gotten at Target. I like the Mossimo long and lean ones best.
  • I have camis from H&M that work very well, but they have a bit of spandex, and they aren't racerback, so they aren't quite what you want.  I've seen the racerback ones there, but I don't know if they come with spandex.  FWIW, my camis from there hold their shape very well.

For wifebeaters that I use for layering, I buy boys Hanes XL, where a five-pack is about $6.  I wear them for a while (they do get shorter over time, which is so weird), until they wear out, and I feel no guilt about throwing them out and buying new.  They are sort of see-through, though, so you can't wear them alone.

I bought these when I was pg with Ellie and I have worn them since.  They are awesome and I like the extra length.

I have a few from H&M.  You have to try them on since they all fit a bit different and vary in length.  But the ones I have I love.  They are stretchy and keep their shape as long as you don't chlorine bleach them.

  • I have about 1 million of the Long and Lean tanks from Target. I have been buying them for a few years now. They usually will go on sale for $8 every few weeks. (I think they are Mossimo brand, but are located near the more casual Mossimo stuff folded on a table)

For non-ribbed I really like the tanks from Wet Seal. They are rediculously cheap, but are long and very comfy. They have spaghetti straps. Usually located near their basic tees and tanks.

  • I love, love, love the Target long and lean tanks.  I wear them like my H wears white t's...under everything!  $8 seems to be there normal price, but they will go on sale every once in awhile for $6.

  • Another vote for Target's Mossimo Long and lean.  I have like 10 of those things, some for 3 years now that have not lost their shape.  They are only about 13 miles longStick out tongue, but I have a pretty short torso

  • I got some great ones at Eddie Bauer two summers ago. Didn't get there last year b/c I was pg. They're shaped which was nice.
