I just saw that you live in Kennesaw... I used to live there too! :-) I lived off of Cobb Parkway at the base of Kennesaw Mountain (Ellison Lakes).
I think you guys will really enjoy Greenville. Its got the amenities of Atlanta, but its not as uppity.
Since you guys like to slum, you will want to try Dixie's Tavern (in downtown) too. My DH swears by the seafood there.

Thank you for all the tips! It's scary but so cool at the same time. DH and I are very laid back people and ATL is just too much for us!
What a small world! I liked Atlanta for the most part...well the shopping. I spent most every weekend at Lenox Mall (hangs head in shame). But the traffic was ridiculous! I hated trying to get out of town on Fridays when it was time to visit SC.
