Did you decide on running Big Sur???? I was OOT this week and briefly saw your post but couldn't respond....if you still want some info on this race, I ran it this past year!
Re: Oh angelabbf!!!!!!
I am VERY seriously considering it. I am scuuuured though. It would be my first half. And I need a push (aka kick in the pants). I know I get super bored on runs, and this one looked like it would be a beautiful one to keep me entertained in the scenery as I go. Also, I'm looking for something that's not TOO hard - I don't want to be running 45 degree hills for an hour (ok, slight exaggeration, but I'm sure you get the point).
And then I was looking at the registration info. How do you know what corral/time you would start in? I feel like such a newb. Doing something like this on my own scares me.
Any info you could provide would be FABULOUS!
Oh, I so understand! Races are always exciting and scary! First off, just remember to ENJOY yourself! Don't worry about anyone else, your finish time, people passing you, etc. Just ENJOY the moment!
As for Big Sur, it is a great course! The majority is right along the water and the crashing waves are BEAUTIFUL! Definitely a scenic course for sure and you won't be bored! The course has a few "hills" but I wouldn't classify them as too steep. Also, they are relatively short and very spaced out.
Don't worry about the corral thing! Be conservative in your estimate (it is worse to underestimate your time and go out with the speedy folks which usually causes folks to go out tooooooo fast and lose steam.) I say, pick a comfortable pace (also, it is always a nice ego boast to pass fellow runners!). And, the big important fact is that it doesn't matter if you start out first or last! The race is chip timed so YOUR time doesn't start until YOU cross the start line!
I did enjoy this race! This is also the race that I did a 2 hour half (PR for me). There are quite a few bands, entertainment, and crowds along the course cheering you on!
And, if you want, perhaps you and I can meet up some weekends and do some training runs!
You're helping convince me to try this one out.
I would LOVE to do some runs with you! Seriously. When are you avail? (email me or FB message me and we can coordinate a time)
Do you have any half training program recommendations? Oh, and FYI. I can run about 7 miles straight now without TOO much difficulty. So while I feel 13 is definitely a stretch, I don't think it's unattainable. I'm in decent shape.
Any recommendations for me given my running abilities now?
I will contact you about runs!
If you can run 7 miles NOW (in MAY), you have PLENTY of time to get up to 13 miles for a NOV run!!!!!!!!!!! And yes, I have lots of training plans I can send you!
