Maple syrup

Ok, this is going to sound ridiculous, but bear with me.

My husband attempted to make his own maple syrup this year. In the super long process of boiling it down, splatters of maple "syrup" ended up on the wall behind the stove. He went to wipe it and it just stayed put and smeared. We waited until it wasn't hot and smearable anymore, and tried literally every cleaner out there that won't take the paint off the wall with it. Goo Gone didn't even do it.

Any suggestions?

Re: Maple syrup

  • You know how if you turn a can of air upside down, it shoots freezing air? Maybe you could aim the can upside down at the splatters, and they'll be easy to chip off? That's the only thing I could think of.

  • Get a flat edge safety razor and slide it along wall so that it lifts up the sticky goo.  This is similar to removing a sticker from a glass door.  Have on hand extra blades because it will destroy two or three blades.    You have to work slowly to remove the stickiness without gouging the wall/tile.
  • Hot, hot water.  On a rag and let it soften the syrup.  We have a family sugar house (well, the family does) and boiling water is what we use.  It's just hard sugar and chemicals shouldn't be necessary- just soapy water after the sugar is off to 'clean' up.
