What's up?

So there is only so much I can get from a Facebook status (and I'm not FB friends with everyone anyway) ... what's going on with everyone?  We're coming up on a year, and I need updates.  I miss you ladies!!

Re: What's up?

  • Hi there! How are you feeling? I bet the nursery is really coming along.

A lot has been happening with H and I over the past few weeks. Long story short, our apt flooded and we are staying with friends right now. Our stuff is in storage. We are living out of suitcases. Not fun, but only temporary.

I am moving back to Ohio next weekend and H will join me Memorial Day weekend. I accepted a teaching job back home and I start on May 23. I am stoked. I am praying the new job will allow me to regain my focus and give me some clarity after all that has been on the past few weeks.

  • Nothing much here. Just in the process of redecorating our apartment and building some new furniture for it.

  • My job has been cut again for the next school year so I'm looking for another teaching job again. And I finish up my Master's in June so I'm working on my thesis right now (yuck). Nothing really exciting. Amber-are you getting super excited? Sorry for the formatting... I'm on my phone.
  • H is getting ready to graduate from grad school soon.  No luck finding a job yet but teaching positions seem to be few and far between around here.  *sigh*
  • We've been doing a ton of work on our house trying to see if maybe we can put it on the market this summer. And then I have my last class on Tuesday night and then I graduate with my Associates degree next week!

  • Nothing really new over here. H and I have just been working. We're looking forward to the new editions that will joining us in Sept. I've been working on creating my registries and shopping for maternity clothes. I didn't realize how expensive it is.

Amber how are you? You're almost done :)

  • HI!!! We're still getting settled, and yes I will take pics of the house, but I unpacked my camera, and then lost it again. I'll get it one of these days. We just mowed our lawn for the first time tonight, and it looks and smells great outside!

Other than that, just working at the Y still, and living the married life.

Good to finally hear from everyone!!

  • Yay for house schu!  Nothing like living in your own place.

I really miss everyone.  It's hard to believe we used to be one of the fastest moving boards on TK and now it's dead.
  • Alot has been up.. Seems like we always have something going on. Cant believe its almost a year.

Work has been crazy and one girl went on maternity leave early so I have been working overtime and then training someone new and its been crazy.. more crazy to come with an audit coming tomarrow. We alsio fired our gardener and have learned to do our own yard which is really fun..

Are you ready for the baby to come?

Amen to that! I think it may have to deal with the fact that we don't get a lot of the one time posters asking eyebrow raising questions.

  • Missy- That sucks about the flood, but congrats on the teaching job!  Those are hard to come by these days.  Good luck with the move.

lca- building furniture??  As in... yourselves??  I want to redecorate, but alas, I have funds tied up elsewhere.  The kitchen will have to wait :)  Probably pointless to decorate until we buy a new house, anyway.

barrel- I'm so sorry :(  I know you were stressing about that.  Hopefully things will come open in the summer, though.  I know things aren't as bleak as they seemed to be in the beginning here, so maybe it will be the same in Ohio.  Congrats on your Masters, though!  Love the siggy pic.  Did you do a TTD shoot?

brit- Glad he's finishing up, but yep- teaching jobs are scarce right now.  We were actually discussing today how teaching isn't the job secure degree it used to be.  Did you all ever get to go on a vacation/HM?

cc- Congrats!  What's it in?  Good luck on the house selling front.

sw- You're more than half way there :)  2nd tri FLEW by for me (although time is slowing a bit again).  Did you find out boy or girl?  Nursery bedding yet?  And yes- good mat clothes are expensive.  Unfortunately, I grew a deep affection for Gap maternity.  It fit the best.  Motherhood made me look like a house and ON fit so loose.  You're so tiny to begin with, though, you can probably wear more than I could.  Hope you're feeling well :)

Shu- so excited for you all with the new house!  Yes- we need pictures.  I read your FB post about grilling and freshly mowed grass and it made me want to grill and sit on the back porch.  Glad you're enjoying it :)

Hwd- I love gardening!  Glad you've discovered it.  It's such a stress relief and I feel like I've accomplished so much when I sit on the porch and enjoy it.

I'm doing well.  Really ready for this baby to get here already, although I know he needs a few more weeks in the oven.  We're just working on home projects... deep cleaning, nursery prep, lots and lots of laundry.

Texas is crazy with the education budget right now, so I'm crossing my fingers that they don't cut teachers.  They've already cut 500 non-teaching positions in DISD, and I am pretty certain they aren't done.  H got a promotion, though.  We're thrilled about that.

Everyone seems to be doing well.  I miss chatting with everyone!  I post some on TB, but it's not the same as it was with you lovely ladies :)

  • Not much here, just waiting for summer! It's been cold and rainy all week. H and I are both busy with school. We're both taking classes over the summer and should graduate at the same time next May (H with his JD and me with my BS) then we'll be busy finding jobs and hopefully buying a house!
  • Yep. We're building furniture for our apartment by ourselves (And some help from anawhite.com). Right now, I'm finishing a changing table for a friend of mine that's due in June.

Once that project is complete, our next one to tackle is a new dining room table. We saw one that we LOVED from West Elm, but we can't bring ourselves to spending roughly $500 for a table.

  • Thanks.  I'm trying to stay positive... It'll work out one way or another I guess.  I did do a TTD shoot.  I just went around my parents' house and did some with my horses, in the haystack, on the tractor, etc.  I'm a country girl but didn't want the stereotypical "country" wedding so I kind of brought that in with my TTD. Smile
  • barrel - best of luck to you for the new school year. I hope you find something soon. I know I will probably have the same issues once I get certified unless the economy and school issues are resolved by then.

  • amber: We decided not to find out the sex and wait til Sept.  A lot of my friends think I am crazy for that but I like the excitement of not know what it is. I finally started feeling a movement two weeks ago. We picked out or nursery furniture but haven't bought it yet because my grandparents want to buy it for us. No fuss there :)

Hope you have a smooth delivery.

Wow- you go girl (4 snaps in a square ;) )  Where do you have the space to build?  That website has some nice stuff.  Too bad I'm not ever going to build myself :)  You'll have to post some pics when you get stuff done.  I'd love to see how it turns out.

I have a several friends that waited/are waiting.  Takes more patience than I have, but I think it's very cool that you all are waiting.  Movement is very exciting!  Enjoy it.  H gets the biggest kick out of it when he feels (or sees!!).  Good luck and enjoy what you can of it :)

Thanks! I actually have a decent sized patio where I do my cutting and the majority of my building.

I'll definitely have pictures on Facebook (and eventually my blog when I get my computer fixed) of my builds and other apartment improving projects.

Guess in my head all I see are the shoe-box sized apartments I've lived in.  Must be nice to have space.  I'll be FB stalking for pics of the finished products!

  • We've just been working and working on the house. ALMOST done with the bathroom reno. It's only taken about four months (but we only do work on weekends and took a huge break when the walls were done and everything was installed.) I think all that's left to do is to install the towel/tp bars! I've started prepping the walls for the "nursery"- lots of dings! And the living room, dining room and guest bedroom are all done!

amber- I can't remember, did you tell us the name of the baby? I love baby names! :)
