I'm trying to figure out if having Cigna HMO coverage is "ok" within the greater L.A. area (Burbank, Pasadena, Glendale, etc.), or if we really need to chose the PPO plan.
In some cities in which I've lived, having an HMO plan is all you need b/c all the "good" docs/hospitals take it (e.g., Seattle, Philadelphia) - but other cities you'd be crazy to chose the HMO b/c no decent docs accept it (but do take the PPO).
Which would you chose in the L.A. area? (sorry for the stupid question - we're relocating to L.A., and it's hard to pick a health care plan from 3,000 miles away) - I'm pg and the HMO would save us a ton of money, but I don't want to get crappy insurance, either.
TIA
Re: Anyone have Cigna HMO (vs. PPO)?
IMO, Cigna is a big enough carrier that you shouldn't have any problems with the HMO. If you said, for example, HealthNet, I'd tell you take the PPO.
Best thing you can do is try to pick a doctor and call to see if they accept the Cigna HMO.
Good luck.
I have Cigna PPO but the main reason I chose that over the HMO is because our insurance provider changed and we already had drs. All of our drs would take the PPO but not all of them would take the HMO.
When we were looking at switching to my DH's insurance, Blue cross/blue shield, I couldn't really find too many drs that took the HMO.
Why don't you ask on here for referrals to drs in the area you are moving to and then call them to see what they take.
