Midwest Mountaineering

Does anyone know what their prices and selection are like compared to REI?  They have a Groupon deal today.

Re: Midwest Mountaineering

  • They have a great selection and a surprisingly large store.  I have shopped here for travel gear for "backpacking" style travel as well as for camping and hiking gear.  They have a small skiing and rock climbing section as well.  They also sell kayaks and canoes.  The best part about Midwest Mountaineering is the upstairs "sale" section which is very large as well and has everything from high quality backpacks to waterproof matches.

Price wise I would say they are a bit more expensive than REI because they do not have the benefit of being a large chain store but not too expensive that the Groupon wouldn't be worth it.
  • Thanks!  I bought one.

I also noticed on their website last night that they have classes so we went to the SHT backpacking class last night.  Great class and cool store!  We didn't have much time to shop but we'll definitely go back.
