Getting rid of ants??

I really don't want to set out those little ant houses.

Any ideas for getting rid of them? I used vinegar which I read stop a chemical they release to that other ants can't follow their trail.

They aren't bad, but I have a some persistent that I can't get rid of! My kitchen is clean...I wiped along the baseboards, as well.We haven't seen them anywhere else

Any other ideas?

  • Sprinkle cinnamon at their entry.  I found that I had to reapply it every couple days.

You can also mix borax with a little sugar water if you want to kill them.  If they aren't attracted to the sugar water, try mixing it with some ground meat.

  • Chalk has always been my ant fix.  Ants won't cross a chalk line, so we always line the outside of our house with chalk if we get ants.  It was also great to draw outlines around our kitchen windows.  Ants also hate peppermint, so I put peppermint oil in little dishes where needed instead of ant traps.  These were my remedies when I live in NorCal and here in New Mexico.  I hope you find something that works for you.

  • I've also heard cornmeal (which can be messy indoors).  I think they eat it and it explodes in their stomach?  Not sure.

This is what we do too.  We reapply probably every three days for about 2 weeks.  The ants usually stay away for a few weeks until one of us (*cough* DH *cough*) leaves dishes with food on them in the sink overnight.

  • Terro Liquid Ant Killer is just borax mixed with sweetener. The ants will swarm the liquid for a day, then take it back to the nest and kill them all.

My ants are cinnamon-resistant. Sad They just march right through it.
