Q of the Day

Where do you tend/prefer to get your books (new, used, electronic, library, etc.)?

Re: Q of the Day

  • Library or used book store, I'm a sucker for the way old books smell, I know I'm a freak, my H tells me so Tongue Tied

He tried to buy me a kindle for mother's day and I told him not too because I love my books so much!

  • I buy used, unless there is something I want right away or if I really liked a book and want a copy that is nice for my bookshelf.

I like to buy at library book sales and at a local used book store. If I buy new I go to Barnes and Noble.

The library.  There aren't many books I read more than once so I consider buying books a bit of a waste (for me).  I also use paperbackswap.com a lot- I've gotten rid of a ton of old textbooks from grad school plus other books I've accumulated over the years in exchange for new books I haven't read yet.

  • Some of each, but now that I have an ipad, I'll probably be doing mostly ebooks.  I like the convenience factor of the instant download.

I'm happy to lend, trade, or give away most books after I've read them.  I should really sign up for one of those swapping websites.

  • I am cheap, so I prefer library.  For lesser-read titles, I try to get them used.

  • I like to got to places like Half Price books first to see if they have a used book I want, if they do not have it or the book just came out I will go to Barnes and Noble. I love books and have a 'library' room at our house so I like to keep all mine.

I love our local library, and since my tax money pays for it, I might as well use it!  :)

For books I want to keep a copy of- I usually get my books from a used bookstore, where I can trade in my books to get store credit.  I also like to go to the library bookstore, where they sell used books and the money goes to benefit the library.  I also hit garage sales a lot.  I will admit, though, that I do still go to Barnes and Noble sometimes... I just can't stop myself!

Oooh, I've never heard of that site before.  I'll have to check it out!

I do library and/or e-books on my iPad.

  • I know it's terribly non-green of me, but I buy new from Amazon Embarrassed  I like to keep all my books, as I read them several times.  I dislike the idea of having to return something I want to keep, so the library is out.  I write all over my books, turn the pages down, highlight stuff, etc.. I know I could buy used for this, but our local used bookstore never has anything I want (local food, cookbooks, etc...), it's more of twenty zillion copies of the last Nora Roberts or Stephen King book.  Used off Amazon always seems to be a PITA.  I'll buy it and get a message that the seller no longer has it, the book arrives and it's the wrong book or edition...I've had so many problems with that I gave up.

The library (ours is pretty sucky but there are a couple good ones in the district I can request books from), my bff - she reads a lot during her work day and goes through books fast so she passes them on, and I like to search the free ebook section of B&N.

  • I like books in every form, and i'll never abandon my love of the sensory experience of reading a book. Libraries are some of my favorite places to be, and their existence makes me happy. I love that kindles, etc. seem to be getting more people to read/people to read more (and discuss their reading), and though there are drawbacks, the resulting increased access to publishing is interesting. I buy most books used from half price books/others and thrift stores, some from library sales and the free community book exchange at the library. I rarely buy books new, except for academic purposes when they aren't available used soon enough.
