recommend your camera

I do not want a big photographer camera. I want one that will be able to go in my purse or the diaper bag.

My must have are rechargable battery and a camera that takes both videos and photos.

I also want to know your thoughts on the touch screen cameras.

Bonus points if you post a link. TIA

Re: recommend your camera

  • Both of our simple cameras are Kodak. We just happen to like the features, and it seems you get the best bang for your buck. They're a bit older, so there's no link to buy them anymore. Sorry. We are looking into a Canon Rebel at the moment, but not really sure when to pull the plug on that.

  • Dh and I have the big fancy camera. On our past vacation though we didn't want to haul everything around. Dh got a Canon G12. It is amazing it takes great pictures you can flip the screen around and take portraits (my siggy is one of them.) It is a great camera. It's like an SLR but portable.

I carry something a bit smaller and I love it I have a panasonic Lumix. It also takes great video, easy fast settings to take pictures at different times and a awesome zoom. This is actually my second Lumix. I really like this kind of camera.

They both have great battery life with a lithium ion battery.

  • I have a Canon... unfortunately I don't remember exactly what model it is because it's a few years old now, but I love it. Maybe PowerShot? I specifically looked for a point-and-shoot with "IS" in the name which means image stabilization. I like the images a lot better than my old Nikon used to take. But maybe it's not a fair comparison to look at two cameras that are 5 years apart.

This may be a bit overwhelming but I always read up on dpreview.com  when I shop for a camera. They have really great, detailed reviews on lots of cameras along with sample photos.

  • My point and shoot is a Canon powershot with IS.. though mine is a few years old, not sure of the number. Canon has fantastic customer services and repairs. A little over a year after buying our Canon, I tripped and fell and the camera went flying and landed on concrete. It wouldn't turn on, nothing worked. I sent it in for repair, they charged me $75 bucks and it was as good as new (minus a few scratches!) The camera was still worth several hundred online, so I was glad I didn't fully need to replace it.

I love Nikon's as well, but I have no experience with smaller Nikons.
