"Married couples now a minority in TN"

 Newly released census data show that 48 percent of households in the state are headed by a husband-and-wife couple. Ten years ago, married couples made up 52 percent of Tennessee households.

This makes me sad. I feel like there are some people tend to take marriage so lightly. I'm not saying that divorce is never an option, but I truly believe that some people get married before they are ready, and they get a divorce because they are ill prepared and unwilling to make it work.

When I was growing up, where I lived I was "different" because my parents were divorced. My dad didn't live with me, and it was just me and my mother. It appears that my children are going to experience quite the opposite judgment.

In my opinion, we made a vow "in front of God and everybody" to stick together through hell or high water basically. So if that word, that promise, can so easily be broken, it's no wonder we cant trust each other... how can we even trust ourselves?

Again- I'm not saying that divorce is never an option. my parents are divorced, as i mentioned, and they SHOULD have gotten the divorce. it was better for all parties involved- myself included.

That is sad, and I wholeheartedly agree with everything you said. People need to start taking the institution of marriage more seriously again.

totally agree with you about the institution of marriage, but there might be another explanation - since people are waiting longer and longer to get married, there actually might be couples living together (unmarried) that might contribute to the change in this statistic as well.

I just think that there are some people who should never get married, but they do it anyway, and then they're just setting themselves up for failure... it's sad.

 They did mention this in the article, sort of. It was more like there are people living together unmarried instead of getting married. But I guess, how do they really know that? You make a great point though.
