porch/arbor stuff

Ok, so apparently DH talked to our property manager today in passing at the gym (he works out at DH's gym).  Anyway, he thinks the owner of the house would let us do a porch/arbor type thing in exchange for rent!  I'm pretty excited about this because the dang porch we have it literally a tiny slab of concrete that is is 6x2.  It's wide enough for our sliding glass door and that's it.

I hate it and we have to grill in the driveway because we can't leave the grill outside (electric).  So, I guess I start searching Home Depot websites etc?

Are these things you can DIY?  Keep in mind the temp's here are already in the 90's.  So, I'm not sure I want to necessarily DIY.

Re: porch/arbor stuff

  • You could totally do an arbor yourself. But are you looking to expand the actual slab of concrete? That can get really spendy, really fast. Maybe look into doing some decking instead of more concrete. I'd go price out materials at Lowe's/HD, and call a company who can come give you a quote so you can see the price comparison. It's amazing what people charge for labor!
  • Luckily we have a friend who owns a landscape business :)  So, we'll be calling him.  We won't expand the concrete because this is a rent house but we definitely would like to have a bigger patio.  So, whether that's pavers/stone/wood or what, I don't know.  Whatever it cheapest:)

  • When I was at Lowe's the other day, I saw some decking made if composite that looked pretty inexpensive. Less than wood.
