I was carrying a laundry basket out of our room and knocked my left hand against the door. I have done it many times and thought nothing of it. Went downstairs, did laundry came back and oh shiit the big center diamond was gone!
Thank God it was laying about 2 inches away from the heating vent on the floor. So I took it to the jeweler and explained what happened. Now this is not the first time a diamond was loose. When I had them soldered together the lady said all the diamonds in my band were loose.and asked if I had been wearing the band. Umm no. It was in a box for a year, how does that happen?!
Well now this lady tells me "Oh yeah, between 3-5 years diamonds fall out and need to be replaced" Really?! That doesn't make me feel good about the craftsmanship of your jewelery. Anyone else have issues with diamonds falling out or did we get stuck with a crappy jeweler?
Re: Anyone lose a diamond yet?
Ugh that sucks so bad....
Luckily I haven't had any problems yet, but I do continuously check my ring to make sure none of the channel-set stones have come undone.

I've had it happen.
H and I had been engaged for 2 months and I put my hand down near the counter and it hit the edge of the counter. I heard a little "*tink tink tink*" and looked down at my hand to find the center stone completely gone. I just about had an aneurysm. H was outside on the patio and I just shrieked, "GET IN HERE!" lol
It was laying about a foot behind me, but seriously scared the heck out of me. Apparently, the prongs to my center stone were never tightened or pressed down to secure the stone. I was very lucky that it happened in our home and not somewhere downtown.
Ugh that stinks. At least you were able to find it and it happened at home and not somewhere that it was lost. Do you have insurance on it?
I havent lost anything, but I look at it pretty often because I have a bunch (32) of small accent diamonds that I'm always afraid of losing. I do get it cleaned and inspected about every 6 weeks though.
I hate to say but I think you might have a crappy jeweler! Diamonds don't just "fall out" every 3 - 5 years. If your rock is mounted really high though or you have a specific type of mounting, your stones may just be more prone to being easily damaged, I suppose.
I've banged or dropped my rings into all kinds of hard surfaces and I haven't lost a diamond yet. I have three center stones all mounted with 4 prongs each and they've been fine.
The best mounting is when you have six prongs around a brilliant cut or oval stone though, that way if a prong breaks, your diamond should still stay in.
<------ Jealous. I wish our jeweler (Jared's) was closer so I could do that. The closest one is 45 minutes away. We have insurance on my rings and in order to keep the lifetime warranty we have to go every 6 months. I feel like in the meantime my rings get so dirty.
I use the little brush and cleaner weekly, but I actually take them in every 6ish week. Our jeweler told me I could bring them every day or every week if I wanted. Fortunately for me our jeweler (Mountz) is right by my work so its easy to just swing by on my way home. Last month I took them twice because I dreamt that they broke and it made me paranoid haha.
We did have insurance on it at the begining, but I forgot to bring it in every 6 months. But luckily Jon got the extended waranty on the gold, so it doesn't cost anything to be put back in. It will be insured after this!!
We went to J.B Robinson and after all the issues I really wish we would have gone somewhere else. Now I have to wait 10 days to get the ring back, so I have my class ring on my finger lol
Leslie, you should just get a fakey.
I got this one: http://tinyurl.com/3bkeg2o
and i get compliments on it all.the.time. people dont believe it isnt real. you could wear it now while yours is being serviced, but since yours might be proned to stones becoming loose you could wear that one when you are doing stuff that might damage the diamond/prongs. i wear that one when im swimming, at the beach, on vacation, at the river, etc.
I tried to do this when I was getting my ring resized. I actually didn't wear my rings for a month and a half because at first they were too big, and then, they sized them too small. (UGH!!!) H actually got upset with me for wanting to wear a fakey because he said he would rather have me explain what happened than have a fake on my finger.
Andy picked it out. We went together and I told him to pick it. He told me if he knew I'd be happy with a $15 ring he could have saved a lot of cash
Andy has a fake though too. It was $18 and its stainless steel. He uses it for hunting and fishing, when he's butchering, etc.
Also, I didn't mean for the above to sound snarky. As I re-read, I realized how it came off. I just thought it was funny that I just went through this, and that other people were getting fakes for the same situations. I actually wanted the fake because I knew it was going to be so long and I felt naked without my ring.
I didnt take it as snarky at all.
In our case, I think Andy would have been upset for me to wear nothing because he wouldnt want people to assume something happened between us (divorce, separation, etc.). Plus I feel more comfortable wearing a fake during certain things because I dont really care if I lose it. I know thats what insurance is for, but nothing could pay for the sentimental value.
Nice! I never really thought about getting a fake one for things like that.
My sapphires frequently come loose because they're trilliants (the hardest style to set). I obsessively check my ring because of it. One of mine popped out on a shuttle once and I freaked, but I've been lucky so far and caught the stones and have been able to reset.
I'm dreading the day when I lose one because sapphires are rarely cut into trilliants, so finding 2 that match well is going to be a nightmare.
Stand up for something you believe in.
Congrats to both my TTC buddies, Amberley18 and sb2006 on their beautiful babies!
My rings are from JBR as well, I've had my engagement ring for 5 years and I've never lost a diamond. Right before the wedding I fould out one was loose but they fixed it right away. I think the person at your branch was dumb.
Thanks for the link !! No diamonds have falled out yet but I give it another month before these rings are too tight. I have been searching for a good looking fake ring to wear for the summer months.
