Re: WDYT? Trash-themed 2nd birthday party

  • I see nothing eco-friendly about it- bottled water, juice boxes, invites, the plastic on the invites.

I also don't care how much she washed it, she hung trash from the mantle.  Ick.

The other stuff is cute, but I'd have a hard time looking past the ick factor here.

  • Well, I think nearly every one of those entertaining blogs is trying too hard, but they're all still in my reader :P

I think the theme's cute.  I could totally see a 2 yo being in love with Oscar the Grouch and trash trucks.  But stringing trash up by the mantel?  Ehhh.  And all the printables and signs and good grief, embroidered patches for the parents' clothes...!  Yall know my style is much more understated.

See, I would have given a pass if it was Oscar the Grouch/Trash themed, but this was just ... well, trashy. Wink

That's what I thought.  I don't care if you reused a bunch of your plastics, you bought way more stuff than you're "recycling" as decoration.

I could totally get behind an Oscar the Grouch theme and maybe that's why this is bothering me so much--they went all out on something that isn't really a fun theme.  They could have done almost all of this using an Oscar twist and grounded it as a fun little kid theme instead of something slightly creepy.

And I agree about the tendencies of these posts to be trying to hard but I meant trying to hard to be different and out-of-the-box.

Yuck!  So many other cute things to do for a 2 year old...

PS.  The birthday boy should go on strike - like our sanitation dept. does. :)

I really don't see anything eco-friendly here at all. And I'm so grossed out I'm having a hard time seeing anything I like about this.

I think Oscar the Grouch would have been great or even just use the garbage truck graphic - that would have been ok. But real trash? eww

And for some reason the "don't get trashed" sign on the drink table at a kids' party bugs me. I mean, I realize there are adults there too and that the kids probably didn't even get it but I still don't like it.

I was wondering if I was the only one who thought this!

I agree with much of what has already been said about the trashy/eco friendly stuff.  Elements that I did like: her wording for the invites was pretty clever and having the kids play a game of picking up the trash.  Those hand claw things are fun for kids.
