and boo for having to pay it out.
I was in an extremely minor car accident that resulted in a teensy bit of damage to my car (you can't even see it unless I specifically point it out, and only if you're up close), so between the damages to my car and my "inconvenience", I walked away with nearly $1400. Then I just got notice that my property taxes were almost cut in half. So I called my mortgage lender and they adjusted my escrow account, and I will be getting over a $400 refund in the next week.
Unfortunately, between the tuition for a summer class, my annual tag fee for my new car ($286, WTF?), and possible medical expenses, that money is pretty much gone. Bummer.
Oh well, I'm not meaning to complain because I'm extremely grateful these things came my way to cover these costs for me versus having to dip into savings.
By the way, WTH is up with "hey, it's your birthday, so eff you and pay up a ton of money!". That really sucks, why can't Georgia do it on your half birthday or something?
Re: Yay for unexpected money!
woo hoo for $$$...boo hoo for having to spend it.
are you going to do anything to "fix" the car?
i got lucky with my car tag this year!! i sold my old car so don't have to pay and they were included in my new car purchase so i don't have to fork over any additional cash this b-day!!!
No, it's really not necessary. It's just a tiny scratch really. The estimate was as much as it was because they had to include labor, plus additional time to take the bumper completely off to check if there's damage underneath, but the damage itself is so minor that it's highly unlikely.
Yay for not having to pay anything this birthday!
Yay and boo.
That's one thing about older cars, the taxes on them are so much better!
Exactly! Although where my parents live there is no tax and the tag is only about $30/year.
I also just called my cable provider and got them to reduce my bill $20/month and give me free HD, just because. I'm on a roll today!
In celebration, I'm having the neighborhood kid mow my lawn for $25. So worth it.
My car is an '09, DH's is an '07. We both have October B'Days.
FML.
Call me Kat =^..^=
We just got the notice on our renewal the other day. I hear ya, the rate for our '09 sucks ($200+). At least we budget for it and all the other known annual/quarterly fees. It still sucks though. It's not due until nearly the end of June and I won't pay it until then - I don't care how freaking early they send it. Take that Mr. Tax Man!

Did the insurance company pay you diminshed value for your car also?? Even if it's just a tiny scratch and accident that might show up on carfax will hurt the value of the car.
I already told them I expected payment for that, but they said they only pay diminished value after I get the car repaired. If I don't fix the car they don't owe it to me. I am going to call the insurance commissioner when I get a chance to check on that, I don't think it's legal. I used to pay DV to claimants just by using a formula of mileage on the vehicle vs damages.
I'm pretty sure they are lying to you. I think the law in GA is it must be paid regardless. I still have friends on the claims side, I'll ask.
Wow, that's weird. And dumb. But thanks for asking for me.
