I just received an invitation to my cousin's "Honeymoon Shower", 2 days prior to her wedding (she lives in another state).
I've never heard of such a thing.

Say WHAT? Is she also having a bridal shower?
That is a no-go, no-present.
I am a TA and a DOC and I have never heard of such an awful idea

GAGGGGGGGGGGGG
I wouldn't know what to bring. My only guess is $$, although there is a picture of a bustier on the invitation. I'm extremely confused.

Did she have a bachelorette party? Maybe you are supposed to get her lingerie to wear on the trip????
How to host a Honeymoon Shower
Consult with your friends who are helping organize the honeymoon shower, and decide how you will word the invitations. The traditional honeymoon shower gift is money, to help pay for the honeymoon. You may want to consider adding a politely worded "suggested gift" amount on the invitation, or you may decide not to. It is up to you. The average cost of a honeymoon is $5000, so that figure can guide you in how many people to invite or how much to suggest as a gift or how much money you may expect to be able to collect together as a gift to your friends.
Prepare to receive other kinds of appropriate gifts, as well. These may include airline miles (for the plane ride to The Exotic Location), hotel reservations, a new camera, a gift certificate to a clothing store, or any other kinds of gifts. Some people may mention in advance that they are planning to give these types of non-monetary gifts. If so, consult with the gift-givers to make a cohesive plan about how you will present everything to the happy couple.
Make a plan and prepare how you will receive and/or display cash or checks that are received during the honeymoon shower. You could prepare a money tree by spray painting a large branch and attaching clothespins. You might provide a cute bank related to the shower theme. You could wrap an empty box in gift wrap, to be The Present, and cut a slot in the back or top, for receiving checks and cash, anonymously. You can make up any idea you prefer, but you do need to plan for how to receive the money that is offered, in a polite and well-organized way
Yeah because the wedding industry hasn't created an invite with a bride with clenched fists of cash on it yet. Give it time.

How can it be a tradition if it's a new ritual?!?!?!?! The whole idea seems ridiculous to me.....

In other words "Please help us pay for our honeymoon - we also need airline points, a new camera, hotel reservations, clothing and other fun things."
Honeymoon registries are still not widely accepted.... I can't imagine taking this huge of a leap.
I hope no one goes to that party.
And the AVERAGE cost of a honeymoon MIGHT be 5k.... but if you need to beg your friends for money at a shower, maybe you shouldn't be going quite that swanky.
Completely tacky.
Please tell me that you're going to be "busy" that day.
This. If this is how they handle finances, they're headed for some serious financial troubles in the near future. What's next? Will there be a party to help pay for a new home? Why didn't I think of this crap....oh yea...because it's bull$hit.
