We are having a small shower/going away party for a co-worker in a few weeks. She is moving across the country (AZ) and having a very small wedding - so she hasn't registered and isn't planning on it. We are going to have a little gathering for her anyway and call it a shower. We ordered her a large LL Bean zippered tote bag - she said she was looking for a carry-on since she will be doing a lot of back-and-forth travel. Our evite says something like this: "if you wish to contribute a gift, please do so in the form of a gift card to the store of your choice so M doesn't have to worry about getting them to her new home."
We are still looking for ideas to fill the bag with some small, meaningful items. She is a teacher (will be tutoring out there until she finds a FT job), and not going on a HM anytime soon. They are going to TTC right away, but that's kind of a secret. Can you think of anything fun/creative we can add to the bag that won't take up too much space?
Re: group bridal shower gift
Will she be driving out to AZ or flying? When we moved my mom packed a bag with cleaning supplies - sponges, magic erasers, dish soap, etc. Just in case our new place wasn't quite so clean when we arrived, we wouldn't have to run to the store right away. We also drove to CA so she included magazines, crossword puzzle books, and snacks.
If people are contributing gc's, maybe a little coupon book/box so she has a place to store them all until she gets to her new home? Really pretty patterned folders or organizational supplies for when she starts tutoring?
