Recommend a good landscaping design tool online?

We just bought a house and I want to re-do our main flowerbed that wraps around the corner of the house. Is there a website available online and for free that would help me design the landscaping?

Or maybe a service where you can send in a picture, give them the zone and sun exposure and they can recommend what plants to put where?

I'm not crazy, I've just been a very bad mood for the last 40 years!

  • You can call up a local landscaper to do it.  I've done it for two houses and it's been quite reasonable.  One house, the designer did a plan for our large front beds and two small back beds for $75.  For this house, I just met with one this afternoon for a complete plan for our 33x17 backyard from scratch (not a single thing back there - new construction) and it's $75 as well.

  • Do NOT buy the Better Homes & Garden Landscaping & Deck Designer!  I found it very hard to use and pointless for what I needed (suggestions not image placement).  It's an overglorified piece of grid paper with not very detailed pictures.

I haven't tried their free interactive garden design tool.  I think it is similar in that you have to know what you want and drag and drop it, but at least it's free compared to the $70 I paid for the other one.  I think it would let you move things around if you know what plants you want.
