Hi there,
I usually hang out on the Bump boards, but I realized there's a gardening board, so I thought I'd ask you for some help!
I love, love, love roses. I've bought them in the past, but never
really had success making them THRIVE. They survive, but that's about
it. Well, I gave up for a while, but today, I found a rose bush that I
just fell in love with and couldn't pass up. Any tips for a healthy,
happy rose bush that will thrive?
Thanks!

Re: Roses?
This is the rose, by the way. It was the only one of its kind and of course, the only one that didn't have a tag to let me know what variety it is!!
Drift rose, maybe?
Full sun......get a bottle of Bayer Rose 3 in 1. It's a fertilizer that gets rid of bugs and disease. I use it three to four times a year. Pour some in a bucket of water and water it into the roots.
Its colors make me think it's an Amber Flower Carpet and here. I don't know for certain though.
They are not normal roses in that they need practically no attention. Just a little rose food in the ground when planting and whack them back to 1/3 of their size every winter.

The orange blossoms look like the Amber ones, but there's two other colors of blossoms as well! I've never seen one like it.
Right. The link explains that the Amber's blossoms come out bright peach and age to pink. Like in this pic:

My Tequila Sunrise fades to pink like that, but it usually opens a bit brighter/red streaked.

Sometimes I wonder if scientists have never seen a sci-fi movie before. "Oh yes, let's create a super species of deer. NOTHING COULD POSSIBLY GO WRONG." I wonder if State Farm offers a Zombie Deer Attack policy. -CaliopeSpidrman
Oh, those are BEAUTIFUL!!
What gorgeous blooms! I love orangey/ cream flowers.
My only suggestion is based on the fact that I have 5 miniature rose bushes that are doing crazy good and I honestly don't even know how much of it is due to me, but... one thing that I think helped is how I planted them in our very clay-based soil. If you're planting in clay, be sure to give them lots and lots and lots of gravel/ pebbles at their footing. I think that helps with drainage, and it also helps them break up any hard clay during dry spells, as they expand their roots.
I'm not sure what type of soil you're dealing with, but I thought I'd throw in my two cents. Good luck!
