Anyone hosting any time soon?

So quiet lately!  Any Memorial Day cookouts coming up?  6, when is/how was that weeknight dinner?

I'm thinking of throwing a dinner party maybe in the middle of June, but it'll depend on work in our backyard. (It's new construction nakedness at the moment and we're waiting to hear back from the landscaper and contractor.)

Re: Anyone hosting any time soon?

  • I'm having my family over for a belated Mother's Day lunch this coming weekend then we're working on planning a big cookout for late June.
  • We're buying a house in June and will be having a housewarming party July/August-ish. Kind of far away but I can't help but begin thinking about it already!

  • I have some friends coming over to stay with me for Memorial Day weekend in a few weeks. Planning on several nice dinners.
  • The dinner is next Thursday.  Should be interesting mix of people.  I've added another couple in the neighborhood with a little one.

I've also got a baptism in June.  That's getting catered though- meat, starch, veg, salad, rolls, tea, coffee, and dessert for $9!  I couldn't cook for that.  Plus she comes and sets everything up while we're at church.  In true small town fashion she doesn't need any cash until the day of.

  • Hoping to have about 10-15 people over on Father's Day and grilling.  I'd like to jazz it up a bit.  My fam's idea of grilling is cheeseburgers (with lettuce, tomato, onion, bacon if we want to get fancy) and hotdogs on plain buns.  With some Ruffles.

I'm thinking of doing turkey burgers, grilled veggie skewers, maybe some not-your-typical condiments like chipotle mayo.  Tortilla chips with mango salsa.  Maybe some baked potatos and sweet potatos?  A salad with mixed greens, nuts, dried fruit?

    I welcome suggestions!!

Ha, that's how my grandparents cook out too.

I've been meaning to try these turkey burgers.  The recipe was in the March Southern Living and looks good.

Ohh.  Thanks.  That sounds simple - but still has a kick.  Love the avocado slices!

  • I like to mix my turkey with thawed spinach, feta, and some olive oil and oregano.  I split pitas and grill then serve with cucumber yogurt sauce, red onio, and fresh spinach.
  •

    Wish I was...

    :)

  • I'm having a baby, so we just have a ton of people dropping off casseroles and meatloves for us!

Good luck with the baby.  There's nothing like it.

I hope you fair better than the food we got- 5 different versions of pasta.  I ended up freezing some and cooking myself.
