Kohler or Sundara Spa?

I am dying to get to a spa.  I have heard amazing things about Kohler Waters Spa in Kohler and would love to try some of the treatments they offer.  The American Club and Carriage House sound like a luxurious experience for accommodations.  I have heard good things about the Sundara in the Wisconsin Dells.  Which is a better spa experience?  Also, I am having a hard time deciding which to go to based on the surroundings.  It seems like there isn't much to do nearby Kohler, but Sundara is in Wisconsin Dells area which offers shopping and other entertainment.  Price is another factor.  Kohler is way more expensive, but is it worth?  Both locations seem to have pros and cons, but having never been to either I am not sure which is a better overall experience.  I was hoping for some input.  What are your thoughts?

Re: Kohler or Sundara Spa?

  • Pretty sure Sundara is closed...that's the way it looked when I was in the dells recently. But, it could also be one of those places that closes during the "off season" so really, I'm not much help. Have fun whatever you choose!

  • Sandara is open and it's Amazing I've been there about3-4 times and it's great and everyone is very helpful and knowledgable. You have the pool area to use all day too. It's very peaceful and relaxing.
  • The Kohler Water Spa is great. I've never had services but I know that I have always heard good things.

If you want to save a bit of money on the room you could stay at the other Kohler property called the Inn on Woodlake. You still get access to the spa and the health club. There is a special shuttle bus that goes between the three places.

I wouldn't find the Dells that relaxing. Yes there isn't to much to do necessarily in the Kohler area. But that leaves you more time to relax, enjoy the spa, and time with you husband.

Plenty of places for nice dinners too. If you go to Kohler stop at the chocolate shop called the Craverie. They have the most divine 7 layer chocolate cake and the chocolates are delicious too.

When are you planning on going. There is an event calender that could look at. In October there is a big Food & Wine event but rooms might be hard to come by. If your looking at summer spending the 4th of July in Kohler can be really nice! They have this giant hill the shapes into a bowl with a band shelter at the bottom. There's a bland playing during the evening and then a fireworks show. It all has a small hometown vibe too it. (Now I'm missing home a lot!  I've been abroad for the last two 4th's and I really miss being there)

  • Thanks for the info.  I am strongly leaning toward Kohler also.  It seems more relaxing and pampering.

Thanks for the chocolate recommendation!  I am already drooling!Big Smile

I am not really sure when we will be going.  We probably won't go until our next anniversary, but if they have a really good special this fall we might consider it.

I have read some not so great reviews on the Inn on Woodlake, but it is quite a bit cheaper, which may be the deciding factor.

We would most likely splurge on some nice meals and I have looked at their menus.  The look fantastic.

I will check out the calender when we finally decide when we will be going.  Thanks for the tips!

  • I'm from the Kohler/Sheboygan area and can tell you that the American Club is beautiful. (Unfortunately, the shopping in this town stinks :)

If you do decide to visit, please consider making the short drive to downtown Sheboygan and dine at the restaurant I work at, Margaux Bistro and Wine Bar.  Check out our menu at www.dinemargaux.com. I know I'm partial, but our food is awesome ;)

  • If you are in Kohler during the week, check out the factory tour.  It is pretty neat to see the plant in action.  Info on that is on the Design Center's site.

I have never had any services at the Waters Spa but have been in it many times working.  It looks awesome!  Not sure what reviews you were reading about Inn on Woodlake, were they recent?  They just went through a huge remodeling in 2008/2009 and totally redid all the rooms.

They are remodeling The American Club too.... not sure how far along that is...it might be done by now.
