Camera!

We are looking at getting a digital SLR camera, and don't want to spend a fortune, but want something that will last us a while and take really great pictures.  Oh, and since I have no clue what I'm doing with a camera like that, it's got to be easy to use.

Thanks!

Re: Recommend your...

  • Oh Megan...glad you posted this.  C and I were in the market for a new camera recently and we thought we wanted to get a basic DSLR also.  We did a ton of research and went and played with different kinds at the store.  Ultimately, we decided on the Cannon PowerShot SX230.  Yes, it's a point and shoot, but it's high end and the image quality is amazing!  It even has a manual setting so that you can get the same settings as DSLR, which makes it easier if/when you want to make that transition.

I know nothing about cameras, but we've had this camera for about a month and even I can take awesome pics with it.  The zoom is amazing and it's super easy to use. We bought it off amazon so it was free shipping and no tax!  Let me know if you have any questions and I will ask C since he is the expert.  HTH!

  • I would go with one of the Canon SLR's. The rebel series is great, easy to use and I love Canons. I have a 40D that I love but its a little more expensive.

I believe that the Canon T2i (the T3i might be out) is the newest in the rebel series.

Yes I love my rebel. I always recommend Canons over anything else.

  • I just got the EOS 60D (with the EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS lens) a couple weeks ago and I love it! I really want a wide-angle lens and a macro lens too, but I really should get more familiar with the camera first!

It is a little expensive, but I looked at it as an investment. It's not a cheap hobby for now, but one of these days... I hope to be self-employed!
