Vacation with MIL

I was looking forward to our summer vacation until yesterday.  We were supose to go to SeaWorld with my MIL, niece, DH, DD, DS and myself.  My son is 5 months old and daughter is 3 yrs.  My MIL and I had talked about passing my DS back and forth so we could ride rides with my DD.  I just found out the MIL can't go.

Our options are:
- don't go
- leave son behind and take a short trip
- take just the 4 of us and split up at the park

What would you do?

Re: Vacation with MIL

  • Can you find another adult to go?
    Anniversary
  • How old is your niece?

I just went to SeaWorld in Orlando with my 3 yo and we had a great day. There were lots of shows and activities and even though I am a huge "ride person" I didn't bother this time and still had a blast. If you realy wanted a ride, I think one of you could easily get on line and take a ride while the other had the kids watching a show.

And double-check your DD's height. My DD wasn't tall enough for most of the kiddie rides.

But still, we had a great time.

My darling daughter just turned 4 years old.
  • Is taking all three kids not an option? I don't think two adults with three kids at Sea World would be unreasonable. There's lots of stuff to besides rides. One of you could take your DD on rides while the other one takes the other two kids to a show, and then you could switch. When I was a kid I was definitely way more into the animals than the rides.
  • My parents took the 3 of us to Disney World when we were 12, 10, and 7.  We all stuck together, and one parent would go on a ride, and the other would watch whoever didn't.  There's no reason you all can't go w/o MIL.

  • I don't know if Seaworld does it, but DW will let make you go to the back of the line if you decide to take turns on rides. You can see if that is an option.
  • I'd ask a child adoring adult friend to go as help and offer to pay for them.. or a favorite babysitter possibly.
  • pass DS back and forth with your DH so you can still take turns going on rides with DD?

yeah, wondering why this wasn't your first option?  I get that another adult there would have been nice, but you're still talking 2 adults for 3 kids (assuming niece is young??)
