Our very close friend just adopted a wonderful boy (age 7). We are over the moon for her and her husband. We want to have a ?shower?, but were thinking more along the lines of a girls' night out. What we are stuck on is what to get her. We were thinking maybe a subscription to Parenting, but wanted to get her something more special.
Sorry this is a post and run, but I am looking forward to any suggestions you guys my have.
TIA!!!
Re: Any Ideas?
Has the adoption officially gone through? If not, then maybe a party with friends and family on the actual day, after the court appearance. Clothing, toys, etc for the child would be great.
Maybe a sign for the boy's name in wooden or fabric letters for the child's room?
Picture frames that say 'family,' or 'today we became a family,' etc.
I would also love subscriptions to parenting magazines.
GL! You're so sweet! :-) Did they adopt through the foster care system? Just curious.
Stand up for something you believe in.
I like this idea! Check your area for a hand's on children's museum or aquarium or the like. I also really like the Parenting magazine idea. If you want to get something for the kid, my favorite website is mindware.com.
I would treat it like a kid's birthday. Some families celebrate birthday and the child's adoption day. Do you know what the boy is into? Age-appropriate toys, books, clothes I am sure are fine. Maybe a Target gift card if yow all chip in. Nice outdoor sports equipment like a soccer net, bball hoop could be nice.
I also like the idea of gift card/membership to an activity. Is there a nearby museum, kid's gym farm, indoor play place, aquarium, etc?
That is amazing. I love hearing stories of people who adopt older children. I wish the best for them.
If you go with the idea of a girls night with a gift maybe you could to a gift certificate for a local photography studio so they can get their first family photo taken.
I also like the zoo or museum membership idea
Thank you for all of these great suggestions! Love the membership idea and the family photo idea!
Right now, they have gotten him a bunch of toys. They were a little weary about having an adoption celebration as it may be a bit too overwhelming for him. They want to ease him into the swing of things and introduce him to small groups of people at a time. They have a big family and lots of friends. His birthday is coming up too so that'll be a great time to get him more stuff.
He was in foster care from a very early age (we are talking months old). He's a great kid and are so excited to have him in all of our lives.
