I'm planning a housewarming/my birthday party for June 11. We're inviting a lot of people (50+, but I know not everyone can come, we have 15 confirmed) and I'm starting to worry about it. Also the fact that we're trying to get the house ready!
We also have vegans coming, and I want them to have a good selection. I was vegan for a while and am vegetarian now, so I know how annoying it can be at cookouts!
Here is the menu so far:
fruit salad (vegan)
veggies with dip (vegan)
chips/salsa/guac (vegan)
quinoa black bean salad (vegan)
cole slaw
mashed potatos (my brother's specialty, haha)
potato salad
burgers
veggie burgers (vegan)
veggie skewers (vegan)
cupcakes (vegan cupcakes take over the world!)
brownies
smores
beer, wine, soda, iced tea
Does this seem like a good menu? Is there anything I should add/remove? TIA!
Re: Party Menu Review!
You have veggies, grilled veggies, and veggie burgers. I'd drop one of those. I'd also consider adding another main for the nonvegans- chicken, chicken burgers, turkey burgers, or even a hotdog.
I don't think you need mashed potatoes and potato salad. What about baked beans?
I would also add a cheese platter.
Eh, I don't really like to cook meat. Maybe if someone offers to bring something, but having one meat is kind of my limit.
A cheese platter is a great idea. Thanks!

My goodness this is alot of food, and way too much variety. I trimmed it down to the above, no need to have mashed potatoes, and potato salad, plus 5 other sides items!
I like this amendment. I also like 6's cheese suggestion.

Thinking of doing cosmetic updates to a dated home? These were our costs.
It just seemed like the meat menu is bleh compared to the vegan one. If you're only willing to do one meat maybe consider something a little more exciting/thoughtful.
I disagree about having more meat options. You are a vegetarian- people know this. I am a vegetarian and people do not expect meat at my house or my events. I have hosted dinner parties that were all raw food and people enjoyed it. There are plenty of options and it's not just all "meat substitute" items, like fake meatball, fake chicken, garden burgers.
I do think you are going to stress yourself out with SO many sides though I would eat them all. Pick one of each: potatoes or potato salad; quiona salad or cole slaw; cupcakes of course and brownies or smores; maybe eliminate veggies and dip to add cheese, since you are doing grilled veggies
I think you should always have chips and guac
Maybe. It's not like the meat-eaters can't eat the rest of the food, though, so they'll have the same options.

Thanks! This is really helpful.
Also, the only reason I had mashed potatos and potato salad is because my brother offered to make mashed potatos and my MIL offered to make potato salad. I'll ask one of them to bring something else instead.

Good idea, maybe designate the cole slaw to MIL.
It sounds good, but you could use some simplification. My suggestions:
- Have one entree - burgers, either meat or veggie. So that eliminates the veggie skewers. Plus, skewers are really time consuming to prepare, so getting rid of those will save you a ton of time.
- Five sides is kind of overkill. You have fruit salad, quinoa black bean salad, potato salad, cole slaw, and mashed potatoes. Obviously the mashed potatoes don't go at all with this menu, and should be eliminated. The rest are appropriate for a cookout, but just from a quantity standpoint you could probably lose one more. If this were me, I would get rid of cole slaw. It seems to be a less popular choice than potato salad and it doesn't keep well.
Quinoa black bean salad sounds good though - can you post the recipe?
