Poll Time: highlights on Skylar

Skylar has been BEGGING to color her hair.  Not full on color, but highlights.  Which if it's just highlights, I'm not opposed to it.  What color highlight for her?  I was thinking a light brown, bff says darker blonde, Sky says RED.  If it's done right I'm not against the red since her hair has some definate red undertones.  I think with her color hair, the red would work.  If she was alight blonde, there is no way I would allow it.  in 3 years maybe...but not now...lol  So what do you think.  We are doing a haircolor party tonight so would like to get this figured out...soon...lol

Here is a recent pic of Sky so you can judge better.

Re: Poll Time: highlights on Skylar

  • Let her do some subtle red tones. :)  How old is she?

I remember the first time my mom let me dye/highlight my hair (not counting the Sun-In of course! ha) I thought I was the coolest person ever.  Better to dye her hair than cut it crazy. If looks awful, you can always dye it back to her normal color :)

  • She is 13 and yeah, it won't be STARK red highlights.  (hopefully!  lol )  you never know how hair will exactly turn out...lol
  • She looks like she has some highlights already :)

If she wants red, I think she would look nice and fairly natural with some duller reds and light browns in thin sections.

  • It's not permanent like a tattoo so I'd be okay with someone that age getting some red highlights (more natural red...)
Warning No formatter is installed for the format bbhtml
  • I agree she could totally do red.  One caveat: I used to do reds for years and they fade FAST.  It is actually better to start a little bolder, because if you don't they are GONE in three weeks or less.  If you go a little bolder, they'll stick around a little better.  The reason I quit doing red is I was always disappointed in paying so much and having it fade so fast.  Hope you both like whatever you decide

  • My 10y.o niece just went from cute blonde to brunette/red tones.  All of us were surprised that her mom let her do it, but like PP said, it's not permanent.

I'd say go for it - if its how she wants to express herself and she's asking you to be a part of it, yes.

  • Dyed red hair almost never looks natural, and based on that picture you posted, red doesn't look like it would fit.

If you're going to do it, I'd do brown... but honestly, highlights at 13 seem a bit odd.
