Work Bridal Shower

We have a couple of employees that are getting married this summer (two seperate showers). Our normal practice is to host a co-ed "Employee + Fiance" surprise shower during work, where the fiance is invited without the employee knowing.

Does anyone have any good suggestions for games? Bingo is out, becuase we usually just let people donate cash then purchase something big from their registry. Gift opening isn't a huge part of the shower.

Re: Work Bridal Shower

  • Not sure that too many of the male co-workers would be interested in shower games.  If you need some sort of activity... how about you have people fill out advice cards, put them into a hat.  The bride picks one out, reads it aloud and that person gets a prize.

Is booze allowed at work?  You can do a quick an simple wine tasting, maybe?

If you just want to get people mingling and moving, you can have a Champagne bar with berries, different juices, etc.  People can make toasts to the bride and groom if they'd like.

    HTH!

  • I hate showers in general, and my work does a good job of keeping them really brief and focused on food. Also, it's all women, so someone is constantly getting married or having a baby. In 1 years we're had 2 bridal showers and 3 baby showers, in addition to holidays, going away parties, god we always have some sort of pot luck.

For bridal showers- who got married the youngest? oldest? Most recently? longest? win a prize and give a brief bit of advice :P

For baby showers- most kids? most recent kid (always the last baby shower)? youngest when you had a kid? most boys/ girls? win a prize :)

Oh, wait, do the people at your work actually like work time showers? Disregard advice above

  • I think the people here don't dislike work showers. Its an hour they get to "play" and we usually try to do activites that are not awkward and have cake. Its not manditory, but most people come. I haven't heard anyone complain. Why do you think people dislike work showers?

Our team has about 28 people and most of them are in their late 20s - early 40s. People get along well and some are friends outside of work also. Booze isn't allowed, so we can't really do anything with wine.

  • We don't have a separate conference room, so the "showers" are held in the main office where we are working, so it's hard to not "come" since it's right where we already are. We also have really strict daily deadlines for our work, so it's a hurry the whole first half of the day, and the "shower" or other, numerous, parties, take time away from that. Also myself, and many of my coworkers, like to get out of the office for lunch, so it's just another reason to miss having a break of getting out of the building.

Maybe you guys don't have as many parties as we do. It's something every month, standing in line to get food, stopping work but not getting a break from work people (even though we like each other), playing "games" then no one gets really involved in. Or maybe you guys are just more fun than we are.

  • Trivia games about marriage or the couples?
  • maybe you could search some minute to win it game ideas that could relate a little to couples or marriage or something?  Those always seem to be a hit at parties.  Or even just doing a few of the games in general.

you could do the 'how well do you know the bride/groom' game.

I'm assuming the bingo game is out because you don't do prizes?  What if you made funny prizes out of office supplies or things around the office? Or a small group of you put in a few extra dollars to go to the store to pick up a few things?

I like the minute it to win it games idea. Those could be fun.

We don't have a problem with doing small prizes. The bingo is out, becuase most people just donate cash to the planning committee, then we go out and get a big gift off the registry and maybe a few smaller gifts. So bingo isn't really fun when you are opening an average 6 presents.
