Starting Friday Randoms early
Re: Starting Friday Randoms early
Oh my word, I am the same way! I'll slam on my brakes for a squirrel. It's probably not safe, but oh well. I saw a little bunny get hit a few years ago on my way to work in Grand Haven...I was teary for the whole drive. And obviously it still haunts me...
I still get upset when I think of the coyote I hit 7 years ago.
Mira, here's what I'm hoping: Gracie got really hot really fast, and had heatstroke. Is that possible? Is she doing better today? I can't imagine how upsetting this is for you - you have enough going on. Glad your new vet is awesome.
Four years ago, I saw a young deer running through our neighborhood when I was leaving my house in the morning. 30 second later, I turned onto the main road and it had just been hit by a car and was laying in the middle of the road, struggling. I bawled all the way to work. It was very traumatizing.
I am tearing out the old shower surround this afternoon. So rewarding!
My kids are wearing bathing suits over their clothes right now and pretending they're in a pool. Weirdos.
Does anyone have thistle growing in their yard? I need a few leaves for our butterflies to lay eggs on. We're going to try to go through another life cycle. I'll take the whole weed out for you.
Baby showers make me feel squirmy. Good luck, Chymes.
REALLY? Even you? OK, now I don't feel so bad. This couple has gone through a lot of things to get this baby (IVF, etc.) so I am happy for them...but I really don't do baby showers.
I had to venture into Babies R Us and almost ran to the exit as soon as I walked in.
I went to a baby shower last weekend. The only person I knew was the mom-to-be. We played a game where we were supposed to guess which type of candy bar was melted in a diaper. It was truly nasty.
Have fun, Chymes!
Kasa, that one is the WORST.
Chymes, I don't like them at all. And I'm not so sad that I've missed a lot of family showers because of "the long drive in." I send a gift and say silent thanks for the pretense. I didn't want any baby showers, but ended up with 3 (!). I was glad to spend time with people I care about, and was grateful for the presents they gave us, but showers (bridal and baby) are weird to me. Baby showers, specifically because of all of the "preciousness."
YES.
I wrapped my gifts in Christmas wrapping paper because that's all we have and the wrapping stuff at the store made me gag.
We got a phone call from one of our applicants today. She asked that we not exclude them from being considered if we saw them on the news last night.
We did not, but that definitely sparked our interest.
I googled and found an article on a local news website. Apparently her son is being bullied at school, so they are trying to get out of that school district asap.
Why would you exclude them for that reason?
I think she is worried that people would look down on her since she is making a fuss, ya know?
We definitely would not exclude them (for that reason), but I can see why she might be a little nervous.
Thanks everyone. Your kind words and thoughts mean a lot. I really thought I was losing her last night. I'll keep you updated when we learn something.
GRSweetPea, I was thinking (hoping) it was heat stroke or hypoglycemia (she was due for dinner). But vet today said unfortunately no to both of those. But both those things could make what ever she has worse.
As for the baby showers... I am not a baby shower person either. I feel like I am missing some female gene! Unfortunately I am having my 3rd one next weekend. Don't get me wrong I am very appreciative to all the ladies who host and give gifts, I am just very uncomfortable being in the spot light and the games make me squirm. (Especially guess how big Steph's belly is one).
Mira - Glad your vet rocks and hopefully you will have some answers soon. Continued thoughts with you. I can only imagine how scary that was/is.
Baby showers - I kind of feel awkward in baby and wedding showers. Something about the formality of it. I am decidedly informal.
The weather is bitchin'. We picked up our race packets, dined outside at Parsley (our first time there, super yum) and we're grilling at the in-laws this evening - I get to see my nieces and the twin nephews so I'm excited to pinch some baby cheeks. :-)
So, get this. We just got an email on our joint email account that we never use. It's a flight confirmation from Continental. We did not book a flight with Continental. And someone else's name is listed on it. At first I assumed it was spam, but I went to the Continental web site and was able to look up the reservation using the confirmation number and last name listed.
How in the world did it come to us? Apparently she typed in the wrong email address?
Should I call Continental? Should I call the woman who made the reservation (her phone number is listed)? Should I just assume she'll figure it out when she doesn't get her email confirmation?
ETA: Should I upgrade her to first class? Should I cancel her ticket? It looks like I can do all of that since I have her last name and confirmation number. Scary!
Haha, I say upgrade her!
Yeah showers in general make me a little uncomfortable especially if it's a big group of people who don't know each other.
I just want a big outdoor backyard BBQ type thing for my shower. I want people to come, eat, and relax. No pressure to talk baby or play awkward games. Just....have a good time with friends and family.
Oh wow. That is bizarre! Where is she leaving from and where is she going?
I suppose the best thing to do would be call Continental...but your other options are so tempting!
She's flying from Chicago to Ft. Lauderdale. And I think she totally got ripped off. She paid over $400 including taxes/fees! Whoever she is, she's not an airfare deal hunter.
That sounds like a nice shower. Your shower is co-ed, yes?
I did go to a nice shower about a year ago. It was very small and casual. No games and minimal preciousness. I think it made a big difference in that none of the guests had kids. The mother-to-be was the first in her circle of friends to have a baby.
That's just about what my shower was like. And we had margaritas too!
(Well, not me)
There hasn't been any confirmation from the people throwing, but I think so, yes.
I called Continental. And after I asked about it, the rep agreed to call the numbers on file and alert them.
In looking at the reservation closer, I saw that the reservation is for an 85 year old woman, and a man's name was listed with the credit card info (last four digits visible only). I didn't want to call the number listed. I was afraid if I got an elderly woman and told her that her email address was wrong, it would just get very confusing. Hopefully Continental will take care of it.
So weird though.
