I've never planted veggies from seeds before, but my favorite plant store did not have any radishes this year, so seeds it is.
This might sound unintelligent, but are seeds just as successful as a baby plant given the same conditions?

Re: Radishes from seed?
I would wager radishes grown from seed would be better than transplants. Most root vegetables (like radishes, carrots, etc) don't transplant well. Radish seeds germinate crazy fast (compared to other veggies) so there's a bit of "instant" gratification. Well, as "instant" anything in the garden can be.
Good luck!
