My poor maggie is not budding! :(

My hubby got me a magnolia tree, Maggie, and we planted her year before last.Big Smile  We had gorgeous blooms last year but this year not one bud has appeared.Crying  We're in south hampton roads, VA.  I don't know what to doIndifferent, but I am thinking of adding some acidic fertiliaer around the base and amending it to the top soil there.  Should I cover with peat moss or mulch afterward?  I am also going to start watering it twice a week now.  Any suggestions on what I can do to get it budding?  Am I on the right track?Huh?

If it's just the flowers, and the green foliage looks ok, then nothing. She is done for this year and she is conserving resources for whatever reason.

Don't be sad. Sometimes that happens. One of my azaleas only produced TWO flowers this year- and they were on the very back part of the plant, at ground level, up against the fence. I could barely see them. Very disappointing, but sometimes it happens. The good news is, the foliage looks better than ever. I'm sure the plant is just reacting to the enormous environmental changes my garden has been through in the past year.
